Growing up, I was raised and surrounded by fabulous Black women whom I call my mommy, godmommies, cousins, aunts and best friends (Fab 5 💅🏾) so I’ve always been intrigued by my own and others’ experience of ‘Pretty’ within Black girl/womanhood. I remember playing in my mommy’s @fashionfaircosmetics products and red lipsticks under the counter and although her foundation was too light for me, her makeup made me feel like the most confident girl in the world.
•
As I grew older, I started competing in pageants and my fave cousin @yaxy_itstiff 💞 would be my MUA every year and I wanted her magic! I became obsessed with YouTube beauty gurus and established my own kit to create looks on myself + share on social media. Also, I was a cheerleader and on dance line in high school so game day was GLITZ and GLAM day for the guwrlz ✨ Girls at school and family members would ask me to do their makeup so I flipped my hobby into a business which became most lucrative in college #jimspaintbox🎨.
•
After graduating, moving and beginning work, I struggled to create time or clientele to continue my business but I became innovative and found ways to continue building and honing my craft. Thank you to everyone who has ever supported or contributed to the business journey of @thepaintboxartistry—without you, none of this would be possible.
•
This is my journey. Who knew that my love for connecting with women, and those alike, and helping them to feel more confident and self-aware through #beauty would transform into what it is today?! My advice is to never wait—just do it! Start with a dream and create a plan. It won’t always be easy but your passion will keep you going 💖
