For the last five years, I’ve been proud to represent Chingones Disc Golf.

I’ve carried that name around the country, across borders, onto lead cards, through tournament wins and onto the podium at the first ever Latinoamericano Disc Golf Championships.

But when I wore Chingones, I was never representing one person.

I was representing the people.

For years I’ve seen what happened behind the scenes. I watched people throughout San Diego County build relationships, run tag matches, leagues and tournaments, design and maintain courses, give back and help grow this game.

I watched my uncle Polo spearhead so much of that work without ever needing recognition. If you’ve played a Chingones event, there’s a good chance he handed you your tag, called you by name and thanked you for being there.

That is leadership to me.

And so many others deserve recognition. Aldo, Thomas, Daniel, Zeep, Legend Mike Reeves, OG, Del and John Butterfield, Jamie Tuckey, Damian, the GRP crew, board members, volunteers, players and countless others.

You were Chingones to me.

A logo can be designed by someone. A name can be created by someone.

But a community is built by everyone.

Over the last few days, I’ve watched a very different version of the Chingones story being told - one centered around ownership, titles and individual credit.

That isn’t the Chingones I spent five years representing.

We always said this club was supposed to be inclusive, and everyone should have a place here. Today, I no longer feel like I do.

So I’ve decided I will no longer represent the Chingones name.

There’s sadness in saying that, but there’s also a lot of gratitude.

I hope during the years I wore that name, traveled with it and competed under it, I made the people beside me proud.

Because you were always who I thought I was representing.

Disc golf has given me far more than I could ever repay, and I’m not going anywhere.

Words are words. Logos are logos. Titles are titles.

What matters is what we do, how we treat people, what we build and what we leave behind.

This chapter is over.

But the story isn’t.

And it was never the story of one man.
