Marrakech.
Rabat.
Casa.
Meknès.
Essaouira.

Pas un guide touristique.
Un voyage en musique.

Inna Medina — extrait de mon projet O Desafinado.

🇲🇦 🥖 In Morocco, bread is never just bread.

Khobz is mixed by hand, shaped into a circles and baked until the kitchen fills with the smell of home.
We break it with our hands, pass it to one another and use it to gather every last bite from a shared dish.
It is usually part of the dishes itself.

Growing up, we were taught to treat bread with deep respect. If a piece fell to the ground, it was picked up and kissed, a small gesture of blessing and gratitude rather than carelessly discarded.

Because khobz represents more than nourishment.
It represents work, abundance, family and baraka (‏ ‏ ‏البراك) blessing.

Different homes may prepare it differently, but the meaning remains the same:

Bread brings everyone back to the table.
And perhaps, in a world where we are becoming increasingly disconnected, returning to these simple rituals is one way of finding one another again.

What does bread represent in your culture?

Afaf.table
Food. Culture. People.

Somos olas libres”.

“We are like the sea.
We crash against the rocks again and again.
We break, but we rebuild ourselves.
We are free waves”.

Anywhere you go in the city centre of Casablanca, the minaret of Hassan II Mosque towers over everything. Its architectural majesty just lures you to its prime location by the sea. It is a must-visit for visitors considering that pretty much no other mosques in Morocco allow non-Muslims in.
