3 years ago, I moved to LA. In the middle of a pandemic. Many of my friends I was looking forward to finally being closer to had just moved away from the city. ⁣
⁣
I’d left music. I’d left my family and friends back home. I’d left my church family at Visalia First that I’d began to grow close to and find community in. And as a queer person, finding a faith community I’ve felt welcomed in has always been a challenge. Especially in the Central Valley. ⁣
⁣
I was also beginning the journey of moving away from the nightlife, bars/clubs, as well as the people in my life whom that seemed to be all they’d do. No judgement, I’ve lived it - it just wasn’t for me anymore. ⁣
⁣
I met this guy @armipagan. (Miss you punk.) I found we had faith in common. Meeting another queer person rooted in their faith and spirituality was a breath of fresh air. He invited me to a small group to watch a church livestream and discuss afterwards. The pandemic was still a thing and lack of community and aloneness was something we were all feeling. I was so happy to meet some new people and find some sense of community with other faith filled individuals. ⁣
⁣
It was there where I met these two beautiful souls, Paul and Amy Hauser. They welcomed me into their group and we had a powerful talkback after watching the sermon. I’ve carried something Paul shared with me that day through many of the “downs” these last few years; in both an industry - and in a personal life - that has been full of both ups and downs. ⁣
⁣
I shared that sometimes I’d feel guilty for wanting more out of my life. I have it pretty damn good compared to so many people out in the world. I have just always had a vision larger than life, for the impact I want to make on the world- ever since I was a kid. I’ve always dreamed big and sometimes I’ve felt guilty for wanting more. ⁣
⁣
I’m paraphrasing here, but in that moment of sharing something vulnerable, I was met with with something along the lines of “God wouldn’t have given you the gifts He has if he didn’t want you to use them. Don’t ever forget that.” ⁣ (cont. below…)
