We are in El Español !! 🗞️

Spain’s largest digital newspaper @elespanol2015 , with around 30 million readers every month (!!), published a wonderful piece about us this week. Written by @nataliamente_ , the article tells the story of how we bring wild Arctic seaweed from the Lofoten coastline to some of the best restaurant tables in Norway and Europe.

Knowing that so many people are discovering seaweed and what it can do in the kitchen genuinely excites us.

The article also touches on something we are particularly proud of: our Algae Pearls, small seaweed pearls developed and produced in Spain using our fresh seaweed shipped directly from Lofoten. A little piece of the Arctic coast, made in Spain.

We’re in Marie Claire Italia! 🇮🇹

We’re so happy to see Lofoten Seaweed featured in @marieclaireitalia, what a week it’s been after our recent features in @elespanol2015 and @voguemagazine not so long ago.

There’s a lovely historical connection between Italy and Lofoten: for years, Norwegian skrei has travelled south from the Arctic coast to Italy (this country is the first importer of Lofoten stockfish in the world), so we’re particularly excited to see this connection continue through another ingredient from our waters 🇳🇴🇮🇹

The article explores the variety and potential of flavours seaweed can bring to gastronomy, its natural umami and its nutritional qualities and health benefits.

And with that potential comes responsibility. Seaweed, like everything we take from nature, needs to be harvested and processed with care, with respect for the ecosystems it comes from.

How can we nourish people without taking more from nature than it can give back?

A question that sits at the heart of what we do 💚

A little seaweed story in VOGUE.

Our very own Antje de Vries is part of Vogue’s recent feature, “Meet the Women Leading Norway’s Seaweed Revolution”, alongside Angelita Eriksen and Tamara Singer of Lofoten Seaweed.

A story about women, the ocean, seaweed and finding a gentler way to work with nature. Something we feel rather strongly about on our tiny island.

We got to bring our cameras to @walakerhotell and spend some time exploring this incredible place.

There’s so much history in these walls, dating all the way back to 1640, and the fact that it’s still owned and run by the Nitter family makes it even more special.

Really cool to experience the place, hear some of the stories and capture our own little piece of it.🤩

We are in Vogue!!

@stephaniegavan wrote the most beautiful piece about the women leading Norway’s seaweed revolution, and we are so proud to be part of it. From Japan’s Ama sea women to the seaweed farmers of Zanzibar, women and seaweed have always gone together. It is a tradition that runs deeper than we sometimes remember, and one we are very glad to be continuing up here on the Arctic coast.

What does Lofoten taste like? Later this month, we’re heading north with @cntraveler to explore exactly that.

With our client @holmenlofoten ’s Kitchen on the Edge of the World as the lens, we’ll explore Lofoten’s relationship with food. It starts at Holmen, where guest chef @mattorlando_esse will cook with ingredients from the islands, before we head out to meet some of the local producers Holmen work with.

From seaweed foraging to cheesemaking and farming, we’ll trace the ingredients back to the people and places they come from, and get a closer look at the food culture taking shape across the islands.

Unmistakably Nordic 🌊

Fieldnotes: Oslofjord

I volunteered with @mareaoslo and @marinreparatorene while they collected seaweed for their restoration work. We gathered mother kelp and cut the seaweed blades before packing them into @seaweed_solutions , where they will release spores to grow sporophytes in the lab.

The experience made me revisit the work of the late marine biologist #rachelcarson and consider how I can connect her observations with my own practice as a scientific illustrator.

Carson wrote about colour as an indicator of an ecosystem’s condition. She described green coastal waters, in all their shifting hues, as the colour of life. Through that lens, I returned to the fjord and looked at it differently.

I focused on the colours at the surface and began to notice the contrast between clear water and the more common brown-green water, which limits visibility. These colours can reflect the effects of nutrient runoff, wastewater, sediment, and other pressures on the ecosystem.

Colour, colour, colour—I keep thinking about it and wondering what it can reveal. These days I am thinking more carefully about what the fjord is showing us, and about the role visual communication can play in help return our attention to the sea.

Hils på klokken «Fridykker – Ett Pust».
I 2024 sluttet jeg i jobben for å holde på med mitt eget prosjekt, På ett pust – å fortelle historier fra under overflaten.
Denne delen av reisen startet med en tilfeldig samtale med Paul H. Amble @sutterud_cie. Samtalen dreide seg selvfølgelig om havet, og om vår felles interesse for fotografi, fridykking og klassiske dykkerur. Av det vokste det frem en idé. Ikke enda en dykkerklokke, men en følelse: det ene innpustet som følger deg ned. Det ble til klokken Fridykker – Ett Pust fra @farfarklokker .
For meg handler ikke fridykking om å dykke dypest eller lengst. Det handler om frihet. Jeg lever og skaper i de sekundene jeg er under med kameraet mitt. Livet består av sekunder. Der under er det fritt og stille. Verden der oppe forsvinner, og jeg får være alene. Ingen varsler eller meldinger tikker inn.
Derfor måtte klokken være alt det duppedittene ikke er. Ingen skjerm. Ingen pling. Ingen lading. Et urverk som ikke stopper så lenge jeg beveger meg. Ikke noe du bruker opp og kjøper på nytt.
Og en liten hilsen og kanskje en drøm om gamle tider, da havet og naturen var noe annet. En påminnelse om å leve fritt, ikke etter en dings som forteller deg alt.
«Fridykker – Ett Pust» er for oss som elsker havet og vannet. På, under og over.
Men også for alle dere andre som vil ha et stykke urverk laget for å leve med – få riper, historier og minner, og som en dag gis videre og brukes igjen.

PS: Første batch av «Ett Pust» produseres i kun 30 eksemplarer.

NØSEN HUNDREDS ~ 🥇
«Back to the roots»

Mitt første fullførte ultraløp var 100K under @nosenhundreds i 2021. Etter et skuffende EM for en uke sida ville jeg tilbake til Nøsen, gå under radaren, gjøre noe idiotisk og bare ha mål om å fullføre et lengre løp med kontroll på kroppen - og «what the f*** just happened?»

Med @marriwetterhus sin tydelige instruks om å legge ut på langtur, holde meg i sone 1/2, og kun fokusere på å få i meg karbo hver halvtime var det ikke annet enn å «locke in» og stole på ho som kjenner meg best og kan det gamet her bedre enn de fleste🫶🏼

Aldri kost meg mer på løp enn jeg gjorde under årets Nøsen, til tross for et fryktelig vær🌧️🥶

Full kontroll på kropp og mage, og en forbausende god tid sett i lys av oppladning, belastning og mangel på trening mot såpass lange løp de siste 2 åra🥹

Takk for nok et fantastisk arrangement @nosenhundreds og @salomon.norway 💙
