I picked this up thinking I was going to read a weird little horror story and instead was quietly shoved into an existential pit and left there with a library card.

The idea is so simple and so deeply fucked: you die, you end up in Hell, and Hell is a library containing every book that could possibly exist. Somewhere in that infinite hellscape is the book of your life. Find it, read it, and maybe you get to leave.

And somehow the scariest part isn’t Hell. It’s infinity...

The longer I thought about this book, the worse it got. 😭 The kind of worse where you put it down and go about your day but your brain is still in the background whispering “yeah but what if you had literally forever?”

It’s strange and bleak and beautiful and deeply uncomfortable in a way I wasn’t expecting. It made me think about how badly we want our lives to mean something, how terrifying it is to imagine having all the time in the universe, and how maybe the things that make life worth living are precisely the things that make it finite. Okay, enough of the deep talk...Anyway, I came here for demons and got an existential crisis. Rude. Lmao

Have you read this? The vibes of this book still stick with me. If you haven't read it...you should!

Starting out the “ber” months with some serial ☠️ books. The Butcher Legacy by alainatothemax is book three in the Dr. Wren Muller series and continues to follow Wren and Leroux following the absolute tragedy of the last book. I definitely think there will be more books after this one with the way it ended. Definitely pick this one up but only after you read the first two. Too Old for This by @smariedowning was a WILD ride! I found myself constantly thinking “ma’am this is a terrible idea” as I watched the character dig a bigger and bigger hole. Best advertisement I have ever seen for continuing to not answer the front door. Thanks to @mostly.macabre.bookworm for the recommendation she didn’t know she gave me. This book was a good time. #serial☠️fiction #bermonthreads #readingisfun

Recently, @mostly.macabre.bookworm made a “Two for Tuesday” post where she compared my new novel Underbelly📕🏜️🩸 to The Secret Dinner by @raphael_montes 🍝🔪

Out of pure curiosity, I had to pick it up when I went into @snowboundbooks last week, an amazing independent bookstore in downtown Marquette, Michigan.

“What begins as a jokey get-rich-quick scheme — catering exclusive dinner parties — quickly morphs into something much more sinister” — @nytimes

Not only have I been seeing this book everywhere online, but this English translation of The Secret Dinner shares Underbelly’s release date of August 18th.

If you like dark, gripping thrillers that seek to expose what wealthy elites do in the shadows, get Underbelly anywhere you can buy books. Think Eyes Wide Shut meets The Institute by Stephen King, with a dash of Black Mirror.

Q: Have you read The Secret Dinner? What did you think?

Underbelly 📕🏜️🩸 has been out in the world for 48 hours. Pre-orders + first day sales really made me feel so grateful for the support. Thank you to all who made this launch as wonderful as I feel it was!

My cover designer @klr.covers - without your incredible design work, a lot of this wouldn’t have been possible!
My editor Dan Varrette, he did a wonderful job.

Fellow authors who read and provided blurbs for Underbelly - @ellis_hart_author @amberdeanauthor & @josephpesaventowrites - I greatly appreciate taking the time to read, blurb, and share my work!

And mostly, to the 📚 READERS 📚 who championed Underbelly, got caught up in the story, and helped shout it to the rooftops. Thanks you!!

Hello everyone,

I wanted to make a post, and I didn't know what, but then I was like "Let's just show people what I like in horror!" And I was going to do only books, but then, what about the awesome horror movies and horror games I want to show too?

So, this is what I did! I picked some topics, sub genres, tropes (whatever you want to call them) and picked 2 books, movies and games that fit that category!

This is what came out of it!

➡️ FOUND FOOTAGE
📖 Widow's Point & Dark Matter
🎬 Grave Encounters & As Above, So Below
🎮 Blair Witch & Outlast

➡️ CURSED FOREST
📖 A Lonely Broadcast & You Can't Stay
🎬 The Blair Witch Project & The Forest
🎮 LEMPO & Outlast II

➡️ DISEASE TAKES OVER
📖 The Stand & Bone of my Bone
🎬 Contagion & Carriers
🎮 A Plague's Tale Requiem & Plague Inc Evolved

➡️ FUNGI AND PLANTS
📖 What Moves the Dead & They Bloom at Night
🎬 Cold Storage & The Ruins
🎮 The Last of Us & Resident Evil Biohazard

➡️ ALIENS
📖 Sister, Maiden, Monster & Tatratea
🎬 Cloverfield & The Mist
🎮 Alien Isolation & Gears of War

➡️ ZOMBIES
📖 How We End & Feed
🎬 Train To Busan & #ALIVE
🎮 Dying Light & Left 4 Dead 2

➡️ VAMPIRES
📖 Formosan Vampire & Exhumed
🎬 Underworld & The Invitation
🎮 Vampire Rain & Vampyr

A lot of these fit in multiple categories, because Cloverfield is not only about aliens, but also is filmed as a found footage. How We End is not only about zombies, but also fungi and spores,... And if you want any more recommendations for any of these categories, you just have to ask, I have many 😏

🐾Will Yuki survive these books?🐾

It was actually @mostly.macabre.bookworm who did this in March with Lola and then I said I wanted to do the same with Yuki. So, many months later, here I am and here is Yuki, the star of this post!

Anyway, I hope this post puts some smiles on people's faces!

Finished Reading:
What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher
__________

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Format: paperback
Pages: 169
Genre: Horror
LGBTQIA+ rep
__________

Yes, everyone, I finally did it. I started the Sworn Soldier series by T. Kingfisher and what a start of the series it was! I was hooked from start to finish and I loved every second of the book!

I loved the MC, Alex Easton. I loved the pronounce system used by them in their home country and that it is totally different from what we are used to. Also, the situation Alex repeatedly gets into when they meet new people and the new people have no idea how to address Alex or how to act around them. As a not yet passing trans man, I get that myself a lot. People looking at me and not knowing whether to call me miss or mister. It's still different in Alex's case, but it still felt relatable to a degree to me. I understood the frustrations.

The story itself was also fascinating! I will be honest with you, I never read the original downfall of the house Usher, and I have no idea how the original story goes, but I loved this version! 😂 I am a sucker for fungi and plants taking over and this was just that!

For someone that has a huge fear of rabbits and hares, this book really added to that fear 😨 Hares gathering in a circle around you, just watching you? That scene literally gave me chills and it was like a brick was stuck in my throat... Give me walking zombies all day, every day over that!

Anyway, I loved everything about the book! The characters, the atmosphere, the story and the plot! Loved the ending! And now you'll have to excuse me. What Feasts at Night is calling for me 👀
