🦆 Reflection

The Puna teal (Spatula puna) is native to the high-altitude wetlands of the Andes in South America, where it can be found in countries including Peru, Bolivia and Chile.
One of its most distinctive features is its striking powder-blue bill, contrasting beautifully with its black cap and creamy-white face.
A lovely moment captured, with the water providing a near-perfect reflection. 💙#PunaTeal #WaterfowlPhotography #DuckPhotography #BirdPhotography #wildlifephotography

Sometimes the simplest wildlife encounters are the ones you remember most. Thus beautiful fallow deer just appeared may be 20feet in front of me. 🍂 #fallowdeer #wildlifephotography #autumnvibes

I called this one

“Drying After a Dip” .

A moment in nature. 8

I came across this fallen tree spanning a small woodland brook, with the white water rushing beneath it.
Sitting quietly on the moss-covered trunk was this little Dipper, seemingly completely at home above the running water.
Dippers are uniquely adapted to life around fast-flowing water, and can even walk along the riverbed underwater in search of food.
For a few moments, everything just seemed to come together — the rushing water, the woodland and this little bird perched quietly above it.
Sometimes a moment in nature isn't about getting close. It's about taking in the whole scene. 🌿🐦 #naturephotography

🪽 Stillness
A Moment in Nature — No. 7

I was on my way home when I caught sight of the lake and decided to stop for a while. I found a spot beside the water, sat down and simply took in the view.
Then, quite literally, this gull landed right in front of me.
It fluffed its feathers, had a little stretch and then settled quietly for a few minutes before eventually moving on to the adjacent river.
There was something wonderfully peaceful about watching it just doing what gulls do, completely unconcerned by my presence.
I hadn't planned to stop. I hadn't planned to take this photograph.
Sometimes you just have to stop, sit quietly and let nature come to you.

I called this mother's vigilance

Mute swans are fascinating birds, not only for their beauty but for the strong bonds they form.
They commonly form long-term pair bonds, with both parents playing an important role in raising and protecting their cygnets. Once the young arrive, the family often remains together for many months as the cygnets grow and develop.
Swans are also remarkably good at recognising individuals and familiar places, which may help explain why particular birds can become familiar sights to those who regularly spend time around them.
Looking at this photograph, it's easy to imagine the quiet concentration of a mother sitting on her nest, keeping watch over what will hopefully become the next generation.
There is something rather special about seeing that bond between parents and their young unfold in the wild.

A moment in nature 4 I called this

The 3 amigos

After photographing the older deer, we carried on through the woodland when these three youngsters appeared.
They seemed to follow us around for a while, watching us as much as we were watching them.
I said to my partner, “I know what it’s like to be followed by the Three Amigos!” 😂
A lovely unexpected encounter, and another little moment in nature that made the walk memorable.

Moment in Nature No. 3 – A Busy Morning

Spring is one of nature's busiest seasons, and this Black-headed Gull was making the most of every moment, gathering nesting material one stem at a time.
Despite its name, the bird's head isn't actually black. During the breeding season, it develops the rich chocolate-brown hood seen here—a striking transformation that signals it's ready for the nesting season. Outside of the breeding season, that dark hood disappears, leaving just a small dark patch behind the eye.
Watching this gull disappear into the grasses before returning with another bundle was a reminder that, while we often notice the finished nest, we rarely stop to appreciate the countless journeys that go into building it.
Sometimes, the quiet moments tell the biggest stories.

I called this Grounded

For a moment this bird of prey dropped low into the grass, wings spread wide, completely focused on the ground beneath it.

I love moments like this because they remind me that wildlife photography isn't always about flight shots or perfect poses. Sometimes the most powerful image is the pause just before the next movement.

Nature often reveals its character in the quiet seconds between actions.

I called this image, Snack Time

Sometimes wildlife photography isn't about rare species or dramatic moments.
Sometimes it's simply about pausing long enough to watch a grey squirrel enjoying its lunch.
Nature doesn't always have to be extraordinary to be worth photographing. Often, it's these everyday encounters that remind me why I carry a camera in the first place.
