💫Flatpack Festival #ThenAndNow - no.1 V no.20 💫 Last month we celebrated the 20th edition of Flatpack Festival. We’ve grown a lot since that first fest back in 2006. Still the things that make up the heart and soul of Flatpack remain pretty much the same… 📽️ Celebrating film - in every possible sense of the word 📍Showcasing the Midlands - uncovering untold stories and nurturing local creativity 🤝Bringing people together - creating collective experiences, from the magical to the mind-altering A warm welcome to anyone who came to their first Flatpack this year. And to those that have stuck around for two whole decades - we couldn’t have done it without you. Here’s to the next 20! 📸Present day images by @katja_ogrin.

Appreciation post for a heartwarming and joyous evening thanks to Flatpack Festival. There are few individuals and organisations in our city that can pull together such an eclectic group of people as those gathered in the Birmingham Council House Banqueting Suite tonight. It really felt like a microcosm of Birmingham; people from all walks of life in one space sharing a beautiful and wholesome love: incredible art in an incredible city. Flatpack, under Ian Francis’ stewardship over the last two two decades, has blossomed into a vital creative and cultural phenomenon. Driving home just how much Flatpack, since its early incarnation as 7 Inch Cinema to the present day, has helped position this city, region, and country as a screen industries nerve centre, was the UK premiere of Chaplin: Spirit of the Tramp. A tender and poignant exploration of the Chaplin family’s relationship with their father, grandfather, great-grandfather and the world’s first truly global superstar, is an exceptional work. The screening was made all the more special by the presence and post-screening Q&A with director Carmen Chaplin and children. Six out of five stars for an unforgettable evening in Birmingham, reaffirmed by sharing the experience with so many lovely humans, plus the opportunity to explore the mostly empty seat of Birmingham’s political power after a turbulent last 24 hours.

IT'S ALMOST OUR 25th BIRTHDAY! We've been asking our audience to send in Capsule memorabilia from over the years. Thanks to David Malys for sending in posters including one from the legendary @shellacofnorthamerica playing with us in 2013. You'll notice a running theme of animals (dead or alive), our take on the 'Attack of the 50ft Woman' for our International Women's Day shows and a series of devilish Christmas shows - including our upcoming Xmas Party with @fl3shcr33p + @the_none_band + @bigjoanieband (tickets available through the link in bio). If you've got Capsule posters, flyers or pictures at home we'd LOVE to see them! Upload to our Google Form (link in bio) or email them to info@capsule.org.uk See you at the Xmas Party! . . . . . .
