POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

A little piece of my (and many other's) history finally being sent to that great big dumpster in the sky after apparently 22 years of faithful service. You want to know how old this thing is? A bunch of these bands I can't even tag because they existed before Instagram.

This video is important because, at its core, it represents the compass Pathway tries to navigate by.

Adam has nearly a decade of martial arts experience and is new to our community, along with his training partner, Joel. Joel is returning to something he once enjoyed but hasn’t practiced in quite some time.

During this round, Adam volunteered to work with him—and more importantly, had the awareness to temper his own intensity so Joel could actually explore.

At one point, Joel finds his way out of a bad position and recovers his guard. That opportunity exists because Adam is measuring himself. He isn’t trying to dominate the exchange simply because he can. He is giving his partner enough resistance to make the problem real, while leaving enough space for learning to happen.

That balance matters.

Newer and returning students cannot develop curiosity if every unfamiliar position is immediately buried underneath force, speed, and aggression.

The ecosystem we are trying to build is shaped by martial artists who care about one another while still helping each other become stronger.

There is something deeply honorable about one partner having the humility to let another person work, while the other has the courage to navigate unfamiliar territory without knowing exactly where it will lead.

That is training.

Intensity will come. Pressure will come. Hard rounds will come.

But knowing when—and how—to apply them is part of becoming a better martial artist and a better training partner.

I hope Pathway continues to fill with people like this.

Curious. Thoughtful. Courageous.
