LONGING FOR STOOP SEASON—

Back on the stoop around the block from where I often meet @maxsnapsphotos for lunch. The snow was mostly gone, but stoop season is still a ways ahead of us. I wear long Johns all winter so my ass wasn’t getting too cold sitting there.

I don’t have much time to write today as I am heading to Cleveland for work. An artist I represent is conducting the orchestra there this weekend. Some people are amazed when I tell them that the Cleveland Orchestra is not only one of the best orchestras in the US but also one of the very best in the whole world. They also play in one of the most beautiful halls on the planet.

Back in the day the captains of industry often invested huge sums in the arts.Today’s oligarchs: not very much. The idea of investing in the public good isn’t much in fashion these days. Alas, the new Gilded Age won’t be leaving much beauty for posterity.

But it’s Friday, folks, and time to leave the troubles of the day behind us. Rest up. Regenerate. Refresh. Be good to each other. We have a lot of work to do ahead of us, but if we stick with it, and stick together, we will get it done.

THE BUCO CLOSE UP—

Though I am not what I would consider to be a bad-ass kind of person, I definitely have a taste for bad-ass leather jackets.😆 I am not sure how I thought I would be dressing when I was in my sixties, but I have grown very accustomed to wearing this classic Buco #j24L biker jacket from @therealmccoys.jp.

I have told this story before, but I was not shopping for a leather jacket when I bought this one. @standardandstrange had just opened its New York location (I believe in fall 2021) and I was already close with the crew there. On the day of one of their first parties Neil suggested I wear this jacket, which had been displayed on a mannequin at the front of the store. I thought it was the coolest thing, but I didn’t think I had the confidence to “pull it off,” as the saying goes (I often hear people use that phrase when it comes to leather jackets).

But all night at the party people congratulated me on my beautiful new jacket. “That thing looks like it was made for you,” was a comment I heard multiple times. I was starting to fall in love with it, but left it behind when I went home. In a visit a few days later Neil explained that the design of the jacket was being tweaked and that this one was the last of its kind. I took a picture and sent it to my buddy Evan @shadesofindig0. He told me it was a no-brainer and “just buy the thing.” That was the final push I needed, and I have zero regrets. Quite the opposite in fact: this is one of my favorite possessions.

This spring I am removing the collar so I can wear the jacket in warmer weather. It’s the jacket’s stand-out detail, but it will be fun to mix it up. Hoping my buddy @maxsnapsphotos, who took these shots here, will indulge me with shots of it collarless amidst the green of the budding trees. I am ready to leave winter behind!
