HOW THE RIDE STARTED 🚲

One little girl. One idea. A community that got behind it. 🤍

Ride4Bella started as a way to honour Bella and turn an unimaginable loss into something that could make a difference for other families impacted by SMA.

What began as a ride has grown year after year into something so much bigger.

Hundreds of people riding, volunteering, donating, sponsoring and showing up, all with the same purpose.

To remember Bella.
To raise awareness of SMA.
And to help create a future where other families don’t have to experience the same heartbreak.

This is how Ride4Bella began. 🚲🦋

🧡 Dr Susie O’Neill OAM and KIDS survivor Linc joined Monique and David on @sunriseon7 to talk about the KIDS Foundation’s annual family camp, Camp Phoenix.

This year we had over 126 participants attend the camp, which gives parents and children the opportunity to connect, build confidence and feel empowered to navigate life after trauma, injury or disabling health conditions together, and in Susie’s words was able to change the lives of many families in just four days.

It’s just one of the important programs made possible through the incredible generosity of our Tour d’Horse family and supporters.

We are beyond grateful for the unwavering support and to Sunrise for helping share our story and raise awareness for KIDS 🐴🧡

Day 31 – That's a Wrap 💙

Well… that's 31 days of SMA Awareness Month done.

When I started this, I wasn't really sure what I was going to write about every day.

But what started as an idea to simply raise a bit of awareness has turned into something I'm really proud of.

Over the last month we've talked about:

💙 What SMA actually is
💙 Diagnosis and newborn screening
💙 Treatments and how they've changed
💙 Life with disability
💙 The NDIS
💙 Inclusion
💙 The incredible people who become your support crew
💙 The importance of community
💙 And the little things that most people never have to think about

And of course, I've shared some of our own story with Oakley along the way.

Before Oakley, I had never heard of SMA.

Now it's something our family will live with forever.

But if there's one thing I hope people take away from this month, it's this:

People with SMA aren't just their diagnosis.

They're kids who want to play.

They want to go to school.

They want to make friends.

They want to ride bikes.

They want to be included.

They want to live their lives.

And their families want exactly the same things for them.

So, if you've followed along this month thank you. ❤️

If you've learnt something new, I'd love you to comment below and tell me one thing you didn't know about SMA before this month.

And if you really want to help, share this post.

You never know who might see it.

One last favour 💙

I'd love to finish the month by giving something back to a group of people who have given so much to our SMA community Ride 4 Bella.

Ride 4 Bella was created by Emma Tuddenham in memory of her beautiful daughter Bella, who sadly passed away from SMA at just 20 days old. The event raises awareness and vital support for families affected by SMA.

I've seen first-hand the incredible work and community that surrounds Ride 4 Bella.

So if you've enjoyed following along this month, please consider making a small donation.

Even $5 or $10 helps.

Or if you can't donate, share this post instead.

Let's see if we can finish SMA Awareness Month by doing something really positive for the SMA community.

Meet Winter. 💗

We’re officially in the last few days of our Move4Bella Challenge, and as we head towards the finish line, we wanted to share one more very special story behind why we move.

This is Winter. 💗

Through the incredible support of our Hot Temple community, Winter and her family were able to attend the Kids Foundation Camp, a place where families living with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) can connect, spend precious time together and create memories that last a lifetime.

This is why we Move4Bella.

To every person who has taken on the challenge, shown up for a class, donated or supported Move4Bella this August, thank you.

We’re almost there. Keep showing up, keep ticking off those classes and let’s finish Move4Bella strong. 💪💗

Every class has a purpose. Every donation makes a difference.

We had so much fun at our ‘White with a Touch of Orange’ dinner party 🥳

It was a packed evening featuring lots of amazing outfits, singing, awards, our annual panel of speakers sharing their stories, and who could forget, the chicken dance! 🪩🐓

We definitely wish the night could last forever 🤍

We’ve just come home from another incredible KIDS Foundation Camp Phoenix, and I'm struggling to put into words just how valuable these camps are to our family.

Being surrounded by families who truly understand the day-to-day reality of having a child with a disability is something you can't really explain unless you've experienced it.

The hospital visits.
The NDIS battles.
The constant appointments.
The little wins.
The things you have to think about that other families simply don't.

But there's also something incredibly valuable about being able to sit around a table and share advice, tips and things we've learnt along the way.

And hearing the stories of the new families coming through was just as special.

It's not just Oakley who benefits from these camps either.

Seeing Oakley surrounded by kids who are just like her is incredibly special, but we've also realised that Arabella has her own journey.

Being the older sibling of a child with a disability comes with its own challenges, emotions and struggles.

And being around other siblings and families who understand that is incredibly important for her too.

That's what makes these camps so special.

They aren't just for the child with SMA.

They bring together whole families who might otherwise feel like they're navigating this world on their own.

I'm forever grateful to the KIDS Foundation and Move for Bella for everything you do for our community.

I genuinely want to help make this bigger than Ben Hur 😂 because I want these camps and this community to be around forever.

Because honestly...

There's nothing else on this planet that offers what KIDS Foundation offers.

And we need to make sure it stays around for the families who come after us. 💙

August is SMA Awareness Month.

Day 2 - Camp Phoenix 🌴

Our most jam-packed day of camp started with movement activities before splitting off to do sand tobogganing or fish feeding, then a scavenger hunt around the island.

We had a themed dinner to round off the night but stay tuned for a recap soon 😉

Day 1 - Camp Phoenix 2026! ☀️

We’ve arrived at Tangalooma, ready for a big weekend of activities, bonding and quality family time.

Over 120 people, including volunteers, staff members, burns and trauma survivors, as well as members of the Spinal Muscular Atrophy community, are joining us on our biggest annual camp.

For our first day we enjoyed our tradition of welcoming participants at the jetty with plenty of hugs, before settling in and feeding the island’s favourite residents, the Tangalooma dolphins.

We had a pyjama-themed dinner with some delicious food and hit the hay early as we have so much to get through this weekend!

Follow us to catch all the camp action 🧡

Today marks the beginning of our Move4Bella Challenge ❤️

August is SMA Awareness Month, and throughout the month our Hot Temple community will be moving with purpose.

Behind every August class is a story, a purpose, and a community coming together.

Move4Bella honours Bella’s life while helping raise awareness for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). Together, we’ll take on our 31 Classes in 31 Days Challenge, creating awareness, building stronger connections, and supporting an important cause.

Thank you to everyone who has signed up and to everyone who continues to be part of Bella’s story. Every class, every donation, and every conversation helps make a difference. ❤️
