Jumping Portals!! ✨ EAST TO WEST
WOW can’t believe it’s been a week since the first show on the So Help Me God tour in NYC..I know I keep saying it’s been a dream come true being able to be with you all again in person but it really really really is. It’s been SEVEN YEARS. What a metamorphosis.
The light within falls into a void naturally, then it’s the tenacity that kicks in and we find a our way back to something to whatever THAT is and for me I know I’ve been crawling my way back to THIS. I feel it expanding and BURSTING out of me! The LIGHT!!! What’s a girl to do…

Magic lies everywhere, but when I get to Sing Dream scream laugh and play with all of you that’s the sauce. I feel at home. Thank you for being there. ✨✨✨✨

I got to finally play my dream room in NYC @pioneerworks with @iamkelseylu . Thank you to the whole team. Now I know the pitfalls of playing fretless bass on a pitch black stage and getting a little too loose with the knuckle slides on the moog 😵‍💫 💙

Another week’s installment in @aaron_anderson ‘s beautiful video atlas of the music from The Wild Heart! This is from The History of Life in Reverse, the third movement of The Transmutation Notebooks and music for when the world feels electric with the everythingness of so many leaves and so many trees and so many drops of water in such a massive ocean and so many breakfasts and bites of bread and threads in a blanket. Performed by @econtemp on @nonesuchrecords !

🌧️ It’s been raining all day and I love this song about the rain.

If you’re looking for some beautiful chamber music for flute, harp, and piano check out this arrangement of Ayub Ogada’s song, Kothbiro.

Kothbiro (rain is coming)

Auma bu’winja?
Koth biro,
Kel uru dhok e dala!

Auma, do you hear me?
The rain is coming,
Return our cattle home!

I’ve been in love with this song for a long time and have loved playing it in all sorts of arrangements. Such an honor and privilege to play it with @mozoot and @ashleyjacksonharp

Kothbiro is an adaptation of a traditional Luo song that first appeared in the repertoire of Black Savage, a band Kenyan musician and composer Ayub Ogada was part of. Ogada later reworked it into one of my favorite recordings of all time on his 1993 album En Mana Kuoyo.

Sung in Dholuo, Koth biro tells of the coming rain and calls the children to return home with what they value most.

Ogada’s recording features voices, piano, and his instrument, the nyatiti, the eight-stringed lyre of the Luo people, whose name Ogada translated as “daughter of the extended family”.

Here’s a little snippet from our performance at Little Island, featuring the incredible Ashley Jackson and Mikael Darmanie. 🌧️

🔺🔺🔺 Pyramid Song by Radiohead

I remember hearing this song as a child and being transfixed. It’s been one of my all time favs since then and was so cool to arrange for flute, keyboard, and harp and play it in the middle of the Hudson River @littleislandnyc with my wonderful friends
