📘 Exact Meaning (Word-by-Word Accuracy)

“One who sees one Aśvattha (Peepal), one Picumanda (Neem),
one Nyagrodha (Banyan),
ten Tiṭṭiḍī (Fig) trees,
and the trio of Kapittha (Wood Apple), Bilva (Bael), and Āmalakī (Amla)

🔬 Scientific Proofs — How These Trees Reduce Pollution

Below are the evidence-based environmental benefits supported by research from:

Indian Council of Forestry Research & Education (ICFRE)

Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)

National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI)

Peer-reviewed botany journals

1. Aśvattha (Peepal – Ficus religiosa)

Scientific Evidence:

Performs Crassulacean Acid Metabolism–like night respiration, releasing oxygen at very low-light levels.

Leaves trap PM₂.₅ and PM₁₀ effectively.

High surface area absorbs CO₂, NO₂, SO₂, and ozone.

Source: Journal of Environmental Biology, 2013; CPCB Leaf-Deposition Study.

---

2. Picumanda (Neem – Azadirachta indica)

Scientific Evidence:

Neem leaves possess azadirachtin, which kills airborne microbes.

Reduces bacterial, fungal, and viral load in polluted zones.

Efficient SO₂ and NO₂ absorber.

3. Nyagrodha (Banyan – Ficus benghalensis)

Scientific Evidence:

One of the best trees for absorbing heavy metals (lead, cadmium).

Massive canopy = high particulate retention.

Improves local oxygen concentration.

4. Tiṭṭiḍī (Sacred Fig / Ficus species)

Scientific Evidence:

Fig species have high waxy leaf surface, excellent for trapping pollutants.

Strong absorption of ozone, reduces photochemical smog.

Superior at binding diesel particulate matter.
