Preview Art Rotterdam: Ide André — @MPVgallery will feature a group exhibition in the Main Section, featuring work by several artists, including Ide André. Trained in performance at ArtEZ Arnhem, he continues to draw on that background in his painting practice: his canvases do not depict recognisable scenes but register actions. At times, he enlists the help of others, including his mother or a scouting group. The canvas consistently functions as the record of an act, as the sediment of energy. What becomes visible are traces of movement and rhythm, as if you're looking at a seismographic reading of an event that has just occurred. Rather than brushes, André favours rope, stones, pieces of wood, a guitar or the caps of paint tubes. He applies colour with plant sprayers or in layers of screen printing ink. A few years ago, he started adding colour: for a long time he worked exclusively with white or black on coloured canvas, but a few years ago André painted his first blue monochrome. From that point onwards, he began to introduce colour more explicitly into his practice. In recent years he has also started to incorporate small figurative elements into his paintings.

“I play with front and back, with what a painting is and what it can be.”

Dutch artist Gijs van Lith blurs the line between creation and completion - where process, gesture, and material merge into one dynamic whole. His works pulse with raw energy, instinct, and intuition - a “beast mode” of painting that challenges what we think a canvas should be.

We are proud to present Gijs van Lith’s latest works at PAN Amsterdam, Booth 80.

ABSTRACT ART MARATHON //
Stage 2: Rainer Splitt

Rainer Splitt doesn’t paint — he pours. Through this act, he explores the properties of paint, its ability to spread, and the steady process of drying. It is the artist’s way of examining the relationship between space, matter, and time.

Layers of colour sometimes overlap and partially erase each other, flowing into precise, elegant forms that reveal Splitt’s unique mastery of colour and material.

It’s been quite a week.
On November 1st, intruders breached our gallery using explosives to force entry, leaving irreplaceable damage
all around. Their target was Andy Warhol’s complete series of ‘Reigning Queens’, each in a 12th edition of 40—a rare and singular set now lost due to this senseless act.

Thanks to the swift actions of the police, our team and the community around us, we were able to open our doors the next day. As we work to restore our gallery space, we remain focused on looking ahead and moving forward.

With its captivating textures and unexpected media, the work of German artist Willi Siber surprises again and again. In his hands, heavy steel can seem as weightless as a balloon, while ordinary materials - wood, nails, cardboard - come together in otherworldly, fantastic objects.

A selection of Siber’s work is currently on view in our Summer Group Show.
