Remembering such a beautiful restoration.

🦊 So much of our past, when we married as kids, was awful you guys. We were young, immature, fought a lot, lied to one another regularly, didn’t build one another up by any means, and we certainly didn’t know the Lord Jesus.

🤍🌱 Today - remembering Who brought us back together, how He did it, and soaking in thankfulness.

💍 We remarried at the home of our mentors and were married by one of them - Quent.

🤗 We sort of eloped and only had our kids and parents present and in the know. {Ha some things remain - the old younger us would have totally pulled this move too}.

🎶 This is also the song we used that day

👰🏻‍♀️🤵🏼‍♂️ What do you remember about your wedding day?

🌉 Conflict as a bridge:
🌱 It can be used for good if we allow it to be.
🌱 It can actually grow us closer to one another as we learn each other and ourselves through it.

❌ Conflict as a barrier:
🦊 Unresolved conflict, “sweeping things under the rug,” sort of avoiding issues, can create feelings of resentment, bitterness, and pride.
🦊 And pride destroys relationships/marriages.

4 things we try to practice that we learned from our mentors:

1. Communicate
2. Listen
3. Don’t interrupt
4. Restate what the other says the problem is.
* Keep doing this until you get it right and really understand what the other is saying. 💫 It’s amazing how we hear different as men and women.

🪴 Practicing these 4 things has then led to us come up with a plan together on how to avoid whatever the issue is in the future.

📆 We have also learned that it’s okay to walk away and schedule a time to talk if the moment is too heated. Don’t let anger get the best of you.

Also, so important and can sting a bit:
💫 Be open to change YOSELF 😳 ouch.

💭 Do you have unresolved conflict to confront today?

📢 Share what helps you resolve conflict. We can learn so much from one another.

💍 Marriage.

What’s the meaning of it? Why do we do it? Is it for self gratification, companionship, to simply walk through life with someone? Perhaps all of the above? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Jay and I are currently going through a book with our amazing mentors called The Meaning of Marriage.

Whether you have been married for decades (like our mentors) or are newly wed, we highly recommend this. The principles in it apply to all marriages.

Jay and I were talking last night and discussing a couple of things that have really penetrated our hearts through this book so far:

🤍 🌱 COVENANT IS SACRED. It is a promise that was never designed to be broken in the eyes of God. Covenant and learning more about it is actually what brought Jay and I back to one another. God honors covenant and doesn’t view it flippantly as the world does at times.

🤍🌱 LOVE IS AN ACTION. When we choose to act and serve in love, the feelings will eventually follow. Let’s be honest, sometimes we don’t feel like loving our spouse yet we made a commitment in marriage to do so. The more we choose to love in action, we will began to see that our feelings of love will start to develop. Our love for our spouse can grow to be wiser, richer, and deeper by our intentionality.

🤍🌱 How can you love your spouse by your actions today?

🙋🏼🙋🏻‍♀️ Do you sometimes find it difficult to act in love when you don’t have all the feels?

Over a year ago, as we prayed about leaving Tennessee, God began to reconnect us and surround us with people we loved but didn’t know how much we would need. But God knew. The Wylies, Guys, and Hooks have stood with us, surrounded us, prayed for us, cried with us, and encouraged us over this last year.
It’s no exaggeration when I say I don’t know where we’d be without them.
This last year hasn’t been pretty. They’ve seen us in some very dark places as we’ve wrestled with loss, doubt, grief, and depression. God has used them in profound ways to guide us and spur us on.
We gather twice monthly to eat, talk, and pray, and Jenn and I always walk away so filled up and thankful. We feel honored just to have a seat at the table with these incredible people.
Whatever you do, don’t do life alone. We need each other — it’s how God wired us. Don’t wait till you feel the need or it will be too late. Circle up, pour your heart out, and watch God move in and through you!

Also, my arms work best as selfie sticks, that’s why I’m usually the first one in the pic. 🤳🏼

These people. If you know them then you know we’re lucky to live life with them❤️ The Miller family may not have survived this past year if these people weren’t present in our lives. It is VITAL to surround yourself with real, godly, prayerful, faithful, and faith-filled people! You won’t regret that!!

Quent and I had a chance to donate blood this morning to help someone in need but I’m most grateful to celebrate Jesus Christ on this Good Friday who shed His blood for all of us. Happy Easter everyone, Sunday is coming.
