This roll has been a long time coming. Many thanks to everyone who posed for me.

Accidentally developed an un-exposed roll of film thinking it was this one.

BALANCE

Back home for a good bit, and I can honestly say I’m excited about it. Since March, I’ve been traveling for shows, teaching at events, or doing both—always working in some capacity.

I’m far from complaining. This is my dream coming true. But I’ve wrestled with finding balance in all of it. I love what I do, so I go… and then my body gets worn down, or I ignore an injury, or—what’s hardest for me—I feel disconnected from home life.

Sometimes I feel unplugged from my faith, my church family, and the men in my small group. Sometimes it’s friends who check in while I’m on the road. Sometimes it’s even my own wife and the rhythm of life we built together.

But then I remember—those thoughts can become footholds and snares if I let them. Because when I look back over these last few months—days of driving solo for 10 hours, sleeping outside for nearly 30 nights in under two months, long talks around fires or over tables filled with knives, and hours of conversation on the road with my mom or my wife—it fills my heart with emotion.

God was glorified. He was talked about, sung to in the car, and even shared with new people. That sustains me.

HE is my Balance.

Colossians 3:17
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

I love Nature partly because she is not man, but a retreat from him. None of his institutions control or pervade her. There a different kind of right prevails. In her midst I can be glad with an entire gladness. If this world were all man, I could not stretch myself, I should lose all hope. He is constraint, she is freedom to me. He makes me wish for another world. She makes me content with this.

I surrender to my inability
to comprehend the ultimate
meaning of life, but I am
willing to sense it, even if
it requires sacrificing
myself.

You cannot force this faith
on anyone, not even yourself,
but it can become experience.

The absence of this felt faith
is usually replaced by beliefs
in a church or in science or
in patriotism or socialism,
some kind of refuge where
conventional moralities,
conformist programs
and standardized recipes
are dispersed.

Certified affiliations, lifelong
membership cards to organize
social structures guarantee
a false comfort, the illusion
of security, the illusionary
ticket to salvation.

Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.
