Each of us has also been featured in local papers like the Gabber, Watermark, and Tampa Bay Times bringing awareness to the attacks on our community. Did you know that the rave culture originated from the gay and black communities in Chicago in the 1980s? Raves were a safe space for people to come and have the freedom to express themselves. Dance freely. Dress how they wanted. Love who they wished. And at that time, ravers were characterized by mainstream culture as outsiders... but who ever said it was cool to fit in anyways 🏳️‍🌈🔥✨keep it weird, keep it original and keep it YOU ✨

Hey disco fam, meet our friend Edson. He is starting off our Pride series effortlessly shining with confidence and creativity ⛓⚡️

We asked him:

“What does pride mean to you?”

His response was:

“June is Pride month, but I strut my stuff everyday of every month like I’m proudly on a runway. I lived my whole life feeling like something was missing, never truly understanding self acceptance, specifically my sexuality. When I came out in 2018, my whole world became brighter, my artistic freedom took off, and I began to truly understand self love. I’ve held onto that feeling ever since and have dedicated my personal and professional life to making sure every person can person grow up feeling certain of themselves and thrive in every area of their life because they feel accepted and have equal access. Pride is about showing the world that the LGBTQ+ community is big, lively, and free. It’s a month so people who are afraid to show the world who they really are know that they are loved, they are seen, and they are safe. I’ve been in that place, afraid to confront who I am in fear of rejection. It was because of all the love I saw everywhere for pride month in 2018, I decided to love myself and have never stopped. To my LGBTQ+ community, it’s our month! You better work and show the world how beautiful we are! P.S. The Senate needs to pass the Equality Act, period.”
