Pint sized spaceship:
1989-1999 Toyota MR2 SW20.

When you get invited to join a group of SW20s on a convoy, you don't decline it! cause from a distance, one might think someone shrunk a 90s Ferrari in the Washing machine, but the story of the SW20 is much more interesting than that.

Created during the peak of the Japanese economic bubble, it joins the list of some of the greatest Japanese cars ever to come out in the same year (a list including the NA MX-5, LS400, R32 GTR etc), and like those cars, would never have come out the way they did if it wasn't for their respective brands throwing as much money at their development to be the best in the world.
Toyota was no different in trying to push the MR2 upmarket and letting the FWD Celica take its place in the entry-level market.
Everything from the power at hand, to the wide range of options over the older AW11, made the MR2 more of a bullet shaped Mini-GT car than an outright sports car. This is the sort of car that gave off the impression it looked more expensive than it did even without a fiberglass Ferrari 355 bodykit on it.

it was just as fast too, with later Revolutions having 245bhp in the turbo model, making it as fast to 60 as a Porsche 993 Carrera of it's time!
Sadly the turbos were only limited to US and JDM markets, leaving the European markets with the still respectable 3S-GE making 167-173bhp. Not 911 beating, but on par with a 968 at least.

Sadly, the crash of Japanese economic bubble and the rising costs of selling these in the US, killed them off in 1995, with European and JDM models going on for a few more years till 1999. by this point, Toyota realised the money wasn't in rivalling the Porsche Boxster and Nissan 300SX, but from it's smaller fellow countryman, the MX-5. But that's a story for another day :)

(P.S Thanks to everyone for letting me join! The community is easily one of the nicest, even if I drive the wrong car lmao)
