🎙️ Welcome to Season 2 of Behind The Game, the series where I sit down with game developers and creators to talk about their craft, their process, and the projects they’re pouring their hearts into! This is Season 2, Episode 1!

💀 In this episode, I chat with comedian and creator John Robertson about The Dark Room, the world’s only live-action videogame. It’s improv comedy meets retro gaming, fused into a deranged heavy metal game show where the audience is trapped in a dark room full of deathtraps and insane comedy puzzles, with a sadistic end-of-level boss (John) running the show. If you win, you get money. If you fail, YA DIE and win terrible prizes!

🎪 We dig into how The Dark Room started as a five minute routine about how crap videogames were in the 1980s, played out in front of an anime convention crowd in Perth in 2012, and grew into a touring show that has played Edinburgh Fringe, Glastonbury, and conventions around the world. John also talks about taking the show to Twitch, the marathon charity streams, turning it into an actual Steam game, and his comedy tours.

🏆 John is a PAX Australia regular and visits PAX Aus every year, bringing his live show to gamers, nerds, and comedy fans on the show floor in Melbourne.

🎡💜 POV: You survived PAX… but now you have to survive the PAX blues. 🥹

Anyone else go from days of excitement, incredible people, amazing indie games and barely any sleep… to sitting at home wondering what to do with themselves? 😂😭

Because SAME.

The post-convention comedown is REAL, and I've definitely been feeling it since coming home from PAX Aus 2026.

Sometimes it's not just the event we miss. It's the people, the connections, the excitement and that feeling of being surrounded by people who just get you. 💜

So I've put together a little guide for anyone else feeling flat, emotional, exhausted or just missing that PAX magic. 🫶

✨ Give yourself time to recover.
💜 Let yourself feel the feelings.
📸 Hold onto those memories.
🎮 Keep playing and supporting indie games.
🫶 Stay connected with your community.

You can be grateful for an amazing experience and still feel sad that it's over. Both things can be true. ❤️

👉 Swipe through for some gentle reminders, and remember, the community doesn't end when PAX does!

💬 Community check-in: Have the PAX blues hit you too? What's one memory from this year's PAX that still makes you smile? 💜
