DAY 2

As many of you know, us locals take graduations very very seriously, especially in the lei department.

Because plants can’t really be transported internationally (or not in a way my parents were up for LOL), I had to make all the graduation lei myself. Maybe this isn’t the most typical thing to do, but I refused to let this important moment pass without proper celebration!!

Before I moved to Leeds, I never really made lei, but I appreciate that being the only person around who knew what a lei is forced me to learn and try my best!!

Obviously, I had to get creative with sourcing my materials. I used chrysanthemums, carnations, baby’s breath, and local shrubbery. Maybe not my first choice of flora, but sometimes ya gotta work with what’s available.

Mahalo to all my wonderful friends that helped me create these flower and ribbon lei to make the day extra special!!

I was always intimidated by lei-making because I know practitioners have spent years refining their craft (and when lei are poorly made, it’s so easy to tell). But the best way to get better is by trying, failing, and trying again!

I have a looooooooooooong road ahead on my lei-making journey, but I’m glad I did enough to make an English graduation a little more local 🤙🌸🌺

Any other amateur lei-makers or kānaka living away from home — I’d love to hear your manaʻo!

Halloweiner!!! This year I was a Toxic Fox Clown , a Vampire Bat and Catsune Miku!!!! =^•^= One of the best in a while 🦇👻🧛🏼🧟‍♂️☠️ thank you to @g0lbinbitch for their cute af halloween dinner party and @jjaslj for throwing a banger too! Honourable mentions to @nanashidisco and @dirtdykesleeds for always throwing the best events for me to be a flea ridden spooky dude n let loose hehe -

There’s no way I can write this without putting it literally- I’m so privileged to have been able to spend this month doing things I love with the people I love in places that are safe. I wanted to take a minute to address the privilege it is to have my friends and family, a home and a place I feel safe. Devastatingly the same cannot be said for the people of Palestine 🇵🇸 and my heart goes out to all of those who have lost someone to this genocide. Over 8,000 Palestinians have been Murdered in the past month, with over 40% of them being Children. Between the Bombings, blackouts, and lack of food or water I understand that you may be feeling powerless and unable to help - but you can! Attend protests, send SIM cards if you’re able, spread awareness, donate to the right causes , contact government officials, do not be afraid to speak up about how you feel, Educate yourself and others if possible. #freepalestine #ceasefirenow
