Unbeknownst to us, this interview we (Chris) did with Radio Radio X to promote Pieces of Head was posted back in February, less than 2 weeks before Gary passed.

https://radioradiox.com/2024/02/23/mr-cancelled-interview-thanks-for-asking/

Would have been nice to know then, but here it is anyway! I think Gary would have appreciated the humor I attempted. Thanks for reading!

A week of unimaginable loss. I was incredibly lucky to collaborate with and enjoy the friendship of Sarah @jane_for_now and Gary @mrcancelled / @gwziroli . They were both catalysts for so much great art and some of the most joyfully creative people I've ever met. Sending love to their families and @superdarkcollective

Two people who really loved what they did and always welcomed my documentation and friendship. Gonna miss Sarah and Gary a ton.

Capital Air - Our Machine

this 1998 album featuring Gary Ziroli is now on streaming!

Minimal electronics and guitar by his old bandmate Vernon Gunn with Gary on vocals, Capital Air’s music is reminiscent of the lofi experimental songwriting charm of Guided by Voices. Mr. Cancelled still played some of these gems at least half the time we’ve been a band (and the projects pre-Mr, Cancelled like Swanfeeder and Kingsteen), and for me, Chris, hearing this album really blew me away and is what made me want to make music (or do anything creative) with Gary. It’s a beautiful throw back of mostly dark pop songs written about drugs, mental health, hopelessness, fame, failure, and morality in NYC & Norfolk, Virginia. It was recorded mostly in NYC in the nineties on a Fostex 4 track casstette recorder, and the beats were provided by a Casio keyboard rescued from the trash. I highly recommend giving it a spin!

It’s on all streaming platforms, YouTube, and still up at the old Lofi Kabuki Bandcamp 🖤

We haven’t been around in a while but my other band @mrcancelled (not so uplifting post-punk based in Saratoga) finally released our album Pieces of Head!

Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Paul Coleman aka @sinkcharmer, and album art by Shane Sanchez aka @100psychicdreams

@gwziroli - guitar, vox
@buckwildy - drums
Me - bass, backup vox

It’s streaming everywhere but consider grabbing it (and other artist’s releases) on Bandcamp today for bandcamp Friday - giving all money directly to the artists!

Hi.

Last week Seth from @headlessrelatives and @enjoyyort dropped "Reproduce This" which is a compilation cover album of various artists from the 518. All proceeds from the record go towards reproductive rights, which, after the malarkey with the recent Roe v Wade decision like...I couldn't have been more happy to help...

I didn't realize we had to cover a local artist when I first signed up, as soon as I learned that...I had no option but to cover "Pitter Patter" by @sorrowestate which uh....quite frankly is my favorite recording from the 518 region ever. Period. You should def check out the original since it is....literally....SO astoundingly beautiful.

That being said, I was terrified to cover it and potentially butcher the track. Wellll this was the end result...a truly "L Niño-esque/Mister Rajers' Neighborhood" take on a beautiful song.

Physical CDs will be available in record stores around the capital region. Link to the album is provided in the link in bio.

Huuuuge shout-out to Seth for making this happen, @jes.turco for the album art , as well as all the contributing artists....and a huge Fuck You to the SCOTUS (though I respect decisions of the courts and the rule of law)

I hope one day access to abortions and other reproductive services are codified into federal law but til then we shall keep on fighting the good fight! 🤙🏾
