Some invitations just make sense.

When Charles A. Lewis asked me
“When I say Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life, does that mean anything to you?”

I had no idea where that conversation was going.

Now I do.

What started as a vision from Nadia Manifold Anderson is becoming 50 Years in the Key of Life, a celebration of Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life, featuring Ivan Orr & Friends, and I have the privilege of serving as Host & Narrator for the evening.

Poetry. Storytelling. History. Music.
That is my kind of room.

And watching Nadia’s vision come together with all the hands and talent being poured into it already?
Whew!

Days 19 and 20 of my whimsy challenge 🥹

I'ma be real with y'all, it's been hard to stay whimsical these past couple of days.

Sometimes you have a day or so where you just feel the world real heavy, and that's okay cuz we're all human.

What's most important is to keep *practicing* whimsy in spite of all that— taking a page from @dirtgod_raven_mack 's book.

It's the little things like looking back on your rehearsal footage at 5am on your yoga ball when you just can't sleep cuz the bones got you awake again, and also you have acid reflux for some reason to add some spice to the equation.

But you lowkey knew what you were getting into when you went to Halal Munchies at midnight and got all overstimulated by the fluorescent lights and drunk college kids... On a Thursday, at that.

Anyway, here are some of my favorite rehearsal moments with Tasia and Cath from the other night!

Featuring @jordan_perry_page_music 🤣🤣🤣

Also, shoutout to @mrccville for letting us rehearse there even though we grown ups 😭😭😭

This place has always been my sanctuary 🙏🏽💐💐

Catch The Lady Taij Band at @visible_records on 9/11! 🔥✈️

He talks about how he got into documenting our bands, fans and stages, his gear, his place in the ecosphere and his hopes and concerns for the future of the community. This is mustseeteevee for anyone who performs, presents and loves live music in Cville and beyond. #charlottesvillelivemusic
