After years spent working in the creative industry, Jermaine Balfourth (@mrfourth) was tired of hearing the same excuse: “We can’t find Black creatives.” Confident that it was access, not talent, that was missing, Balfourth came up with the idea to create a place for Black creatives to merge ideas, share opportunities and platform themselves and one another. That place became BLACQ Space (@blacq_space).

A creative hub that began as a Whatsapp group, BLACQ Space soon became home to an Instagram page and a 500 person-strong inaugural meet-up. Creating access is the beating heart of Balfourth’s mission, whether that be through financially accessible events or platforming creatives on the Wall of BLACQness, and the next evolution of that ecosystem is an app. Built to house the global community of Space Rebels (BLACQ Space members) in one accessible hub, Balfourth hopes the BLACQ Space app will help him to nourish a network of creatives that extends far beyond his legacy.

SHUT THE SHOP- The Art Of Hospitality.

A night built around a simple question: what happens when we make time to actually gather?

Strangers became conversations. Conversations became connections. We ate together, drank together, debated, laughed, listened and for a few hours, nobody needed to optimise anything.

A huge thank you to European Bartender School, Jay and the entire team for opening up the incredible bunker and helping us bring the night to life.

To our panel — Tom, Didier and Andreas thank you for the stories, honesty, knowledge and perspective.

To Billy, our chef for the evening, for bringing people together around the table and reminding us that hospitality starts with what we share.

To Felix for soundtracking the night, and John for helping us capture it through his lens.

And most importantly, thank you to every single person who showed up. Shut the Shop only works because people are willing to walk into a room, often full of strangers, and see what happens.

That is the whole point.

Next Event: October.
And the final Shut the Shop of 2026 season 1. We intend to go out properly so watch this page!

Three days. Thousands of conversations. Countless steps. Very little sleep. Every minute worth it.

@madfestlondon 2026 was brilliant, busy boiling and beautifully relentless.

Day one kicked off with the @thedigitalvoicepr fearless founder, @juleslinehan, taking to the stage not once, but twice, leading insightful discussions alongside our client partners and setting the tone for an incredible week. We rounded off the day with our ‘Extra Time Hydration Break’, bringing together friends, clients and industry peers with mediarithmics and TAU Marketing Solutions.

By Wednesday, The Digital Voice Client Partner Lounge was in full flow. The conversations went beyond introductions, relationships deepened, ideas were exchanged and it was a reminder that the best part of events like this is always the people.

Then came Thursday, and my personal highlight. I had the privilege of hosting How to Hype Yourself at the Female Leaders Club with an incredible panel of women who shared their experiences with honesty, humour and generosity.

A huge thank you to Smita Pillai, Julia Linehan, Kay Munday and Camilla Ray for bringing such valuable perspectives to the conversation, and to everyone who packed out the room, embraced the practical exercises and fully committed to becoming “power posers”. Seeing so many people leave with renewed confidence and a personalised hype routine made all the preparation worthwhile.

Across the three days, one thing stood out above everything else. Marketing and tech may bring us together, but it’s the relationships, shared experiences and genuine conversations that keep us coming back.

Now for a little rest before doing it all again next year.

My first Cannes Lions experience… and definitely not my last ✨

I went without an official festival pass and as an author and more, came away with far more than I expected. New conversations, new perspectives, new connections.

One of my biggest takeaways? 📣Go with intention!

Whether you’re looking for collaborators, clients, mentors or simply inspiration, having a clear goal completely changes how you experience the week.

As an author, I also came away reminded that growth often happens when you put yourself in rooms you’ve never been in before.

If Cannes Lions is on your list, I hope these lessons help.

Have you ever attended an event that completely exceeded your expectations?

That’s a wrap on another MAD//Fest.

A huge thank you to the whole MAD//Fest team for creating another brilliant few days. The energy, the conversations and the people are what keep us all coming back year after year.

To everyone who took the time to stop, chat, connect and share ideas, thank you.

I’m especially grateful for the continued love, support and partnership so many of you have shown me and BLACQ Space. It never goes unnoticed. Every introduction, opportunity, collaboration and conversation means more than you probably realise.

Community has always been at the heart of everything I do, and this week was another reminder of how powerful it is when good people come together.

Looking forward to building with you all over the months ahead.

See you next year, MAD//Fest. 🖤

Can I set you a challenge?

For the next 7 days, I want you to focus on the positives in your life. Be mindful of your thoughts and your words. Every time you catch yourself thinking or saying something negative, pause and choose a more positive perspective.

Life isn't perfect, but where your focus goes, your energy follows.

I promise that if you commit to this for just one week, you'll feel lighter, happier and in much higher spirits.

I went to Cannes Lions without an official pass.

Here’s what happened:
Panels, private mixers, inspiring conversations and a reminder that proximity really does matter.

As an author, this week expanded what feels possible and the power of connection and community. I met some amazingly talented individuals 🫶🏾 Sometimes proximity changes perspective.

You don’t always need a pass, you just need to show up. ✨
