There’s an iconic video on YouTube music of The Prodigy playing at Phoenix festival in 1996, featuring Gizz Butt @mrgizzbutt. He’s a seminal figure in alternative music in Peterborough. He played in punk band The Destructors who, like any self-respecting punks were banned from playing in the city by the local council. He still has his own band Janus Stark and is playing now with US punk legends Scream, with a new album out soon.
Gizz is interviewed in our documentary film ‘Sugar, Gravy, Pleasure: An indie odyssey in Peterborough’ (out on film festival release currently) and talks about being a punk during the 80s and about the need to support live music. Thanks for being part of our film. 🙌

A few years ago we did several tours with our label mates Soulside, smashing it down together every night!

We wanted to keep the party going, so we challenged ourselves to cover each other’s music. In Montreal, we went into Indica Studios to do our own take on Soulside while echoing the great lyrics and strong message of their song “Reconstruction”.

Read the lyrics and sing the song and you might recognize the legacy of systemic racism that we still live with today.

Check it out through Dischord at https://dischord.com/release/202/plays

Had a coffee and catch up with @mrgizzbutt and gave him a (belated) birthday prezzie, which I think he quite liked. We reminisced about his first Prodigy gig T-in-the Park and the weird fact that he was in the punk band Subway with my mate @jonowillis123 but had to suddenly leave when he got the call from Mr H.

Scream and Soulside first played together at the Cubby Bear in Chicago in July 1988.
After a few more shows together that year, they didn’t share a stage again until July 2022, at the Inne Brzmienia festival in Lublin, Poland. There in Poland the two bands met minds, and a match was struck. Soulside and Scream soon released new albums on Dischord Records, then toured together in the US and Europe in 2023 and 2024. This 7” is a gathering of forces and musical admiration to spread a message of love and a litelong commitment to the struggle for true American justice. “Laissez-Faire” was written by Scream and first appeared on Still Screaming (Dischora, 1983).
This version is performed by Soulside and was recorded and mixed in June 2025. “Reconstruction” was written by Soulside and first appeared on A Brief Moment in the Sun (Dischord, 2022). This version is performed by Scream and was recorded in September 2024.

The 7” is available now to pre-order on the dischord site and Bandcamp.
