✨OUR VEGAS WEDDING - PART 3,
Our Friends and Family✨
We had the best time parting with a small group of our family and friends in 95°+ Vegas heat! 😵‍💫
I also feel very lucky that our chapel, @surethingchapel, had a photo booth in the room! I have long been obsessed with the original ones, and I have quite an extensive collection of photo booth strips from over the years, but having all our friends and family take photos this way truly special. Just a great bunch of even greater people. Just wish there was more time in the day to spend with everyone.
(Also instagram only allows 20 tags, so apologies on those who are not tagged!)

With the avalanche danger about to skyrocket across Western Canada and the holiday crowd (ourselves included) super amped to get out in the mountains, we thought it was a good time to address the criticism we received for our treatment of the two avalanches in our short film, ‘DEFIANCE’. ❄️
Despite the overwhelming positive response we received to the film, it’s important to speak to a small but outspoken crew of people who felt that we were glorifying the near-death-experiences and that our chosen style of animation was highly inappropriate. ❄️
First off, we apologize deeply if we offended you in any way. Having lost several friends over the years, we understand the severity of avalanches all too well. But we’ve always tried new ways to spread awareness. ❄️
Our first feature length film was ‘The Fine Line’, an avalanche education film that used a new language to reach younger viewers and let them decide for themselves to pursue further education. ❄️
“We’ve always posed the question of how to reach beyond people who are already educated, and we put that challenge on ourselves,” explains ‘DEFIANCE’ co-director Dave Mossop. “After decades of huge community efforts and lost friends, we still see hundreds of groups moving through the backcountry without proper equipment and education. We have no choice but to explore new methods of communication and present them in addition to the typical approaches to avalanche education.” ❄️
“Our tactic in ‘DEFIANCE’ is simple; it aims to put fear in your heart, and have you live it in first person reality.
Following the terrifying first person POV, we used visual language to indicate all the safety protocols that are in place for our backcountry shoots, something most folks are unaware of.
Also, the illustrations are meant to demonstrate the textbook essentials of avalanche self-rescue.” Criticism stings, but it always sparks discussion. And we feel that dialogue can only help the problems we face as a community. ❄️ Did we miss the mark in ‘DEFIANCE’? What should we have done differently? ❄️
Either way, stay safe this winter friends. //

(🎥Link in bio) Vimeo Staff Pick and Best of the Month badge! //
We're so humbled and honoured that our short film 'DEFIANCE' received these honours from @vimeo //
Earning a Staff Pick ranks as one of the most meaningful things we experience as art creators, but a Best of the Month badge is OFF THE CHARTS!!!
We were so lucky to work with a crew of absolute ringers in every aspect of the production, from the mountains to the edit bay and everything that happened in between.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. 🙏 //
