08.16.2022 The first two days of the school year have been wonderful. I haven't felt like my time could have been better spent and I've gotten the support I've needed. I may just be ready when the kiddos return on Monday. Part of my job this year is to provide support to classroom teachers so I am involved in the planning and implementation of PD activities. Things feel quite different from the other side. I want the teachers who come into our lab to walk out with information they can use, strategies that will work in their classrooms, and resources that they've indicated would be helpful. But that's not all. I want the teachers we work with to know that they are appreciated. I hope to be a listening ear that understands. I want that understanding to motivate the work we do to reframe challenges, explore options, and create solutions. The HBCU and D9 rep is hard at this school. Our principal is a graduate of Jackson State and my co-STEM specialist is a proud Golden Lion from UAPB. These stairs lead to our makers' space on the second floor and place Tuskegee University at the top. You know!

It’s June. On the 28th I will be 55 years old. I’ve had a really good life and I’m grateful that I’ve lived long enough to know that. My sister Lynette, and my dear friend Adrian, have already given me birthday presents. Lynette combined my love for wind chimes and elephants. Adrian gave me this beautiful flag that very much sums up the lessons I’ve tried to teach my children. Dilane and Denai are quick to say that they grew up very differently. I hope that means that the younger sibling got the more experienced mom who had grown in confidence and wisdom and love for God and others. I hope that each sees in me a woman who has learned from life’s hardships and been immersed in the joy of the Lord. I hope they know that it is possible to live your dreams, write your own script, and become the person that you decide you want to be. Birthdays are a perfect time for reflecting on our lives and the lessons we’ve learned. I am finally in a place where I can embrace the difference between the person I am and person I am becoming. That gap once scared me, now I accept it as a challenge. Happy birthday to me! Let the shenanigans begin.
