My first year of college is all done! I’ve met and worked with some absolutely incredible people, and I’ve made friends that will last me a lifetime. It’s been a truly phenomenal year and I owe it all to these lovely people❤️🖤🤍

Introducing: the new SJCCA Dance Director, Macy Dykes ⭐️
Macy belongs here.

She was on the first ever Collective team (Seasons 1&2), did a Britney solo in a cat suit, went to Mia Bella boot camp, received scholarships to attend ASH, entered our infamous Improv. challenges, trained under The Doddfather, Mr. Romeo, and of course Ms. Schippani.

Macy judged the first ever Jacket Pom tryouts, consulted our highest-placing Collective routine of all time, taught heels classes, AND has the voice of an angel (we’ve actually danced to her music in class).

And if that’s not enough…she’s also a really incredible person. Macy will be the best thing to happen to this dance program since Ms. Stauble bought us a doorbell and we decided to give our filing cabinets names. She will do amazing things and you’re so lucky you get to watch.

Something like 11 years ago, I was playing Tom Wingfield in THE GLASS MENAGERIE—and I was across the street from the Little Theatre of New Smyrna Beach at the Publix, where I had my first real conversation with Noel Bickford.

We stood in one of the aisles and talked about how strange it was for me to be back in my hometown at the theatre I had “made my start,” and the conversation took a sudden serious turn when she took my hand and held it tightly and told me how much I reminded her of her brother, and that it was a comfort to her. I could tell this was a big deal, but I did not know until our friendship developed and grew how much that would come to mean to me—as this person who designed lights for plays I was in and for pieces I would eventually direct became not just one of my best friends, but my family.

Today I joined a lot of people who loved her (and many I have not seen in a very long time) as her life was celebrated at a beautiful seaside memorial alongside the crashing waves of the Atlantic, just next door to her home of many, many years. It was lovely to smile with these friends, even while the tears frequently flowed to the surface at the thought of living in this crazy world without Noel.

Becky and Eric, her two gorgeous children and the literally perfect representatives of this life well lived, spoke beautifully of their mother and the energy that remains behind.

That energy.

That incredible, bright smile that tricked me into saying yes to projects I didn’t really want to do.

I will carry that energy and that love—that love she first shared with me at a Publix all those years ago—with me for as long as I’m given the opportunity to walk this earth.

I will be forever grateful for her friendship and her belief in me.
