Well today marks 20 years since I graduated college. It’s unreal how much time has flown by. My young cousins in one slide have all graduated college now. My sister is married. I cried that day thinking of my Dad. Mom is still beautiful and wise. I left not knowing what I’d do career wise except dream that my recent decision to be a journalist could work out. Guess I did alright? Thanks @uofsandiego @usdcas @gousdalumni. Time to travel in this Time Machine to remember this day in 2006. So many memories. So much fun in those Torero Days

A rainy NYE day to wash over what’s been and make way for what’s to come.

December, my favorite time of year. Having a birthday so close to the holidays and the new year is a beautiful thing. It’s a month of celebrating, reflecting and resting. A time for slowing down.

31 years ago today, my dad passed away. I turned 40 this month, and this was the first full year without my Earthly parents. Truthfully, I’ve felt like an emotional orphan my whole life. With my mom’s passing I’ve become an orphan, and that has created an ache I’ve never known. No pity. It’s simply my reality. It’s a pain that makes me human, and I wouldn’t change what it’s teaching me.

While I turned 40, my first born turned 16, middle little turned 10, and my baby—who decided to live for God and was baptized in early December—turned 7.

I have beautiful, healthy children, rich and rooted friendships, and a fulfilling, nurturing relationship with a good, good man.

I traveled and tried new things more this past year than I ever have in my life. The Fall semester threw my routine for a loop, and although there is more work to be done, I took better care of and improved my relationship with my body overall. In my partnership, I can honestly say it’s taken the better part of the year plus that we’ve been together to entirely embrace and trust the experience of being in a secure relationship.

Every uphill climb this year felt surmountable because I never walked alone.

As long as we have breath, every day, down to a single moment, is a chance to start again.

Here’s to becoming all we were created to be—to loving well and celebrating often.

November was great. What topped a World Series Game 7 win and meeting my friend’s wonderful son for the first time? Seeing my sister get married, welcoming my brother in law and enjoying the high of family time. 2025 is almost over - one quarter through this new century and counting.

Last night was a culmination of a few weeks of dedication and hard work.

The first morning of camp, she cried. The second morning, she cried. Yesterday, she was so excited. She loved making friends and getting to perform “on a real, big stage.” Natalie loves to dance, and camp quickly became something she looked forward to every single day.

As a parent, I tend to struggle with my kids being uncomfortable and unhappy, or having hard feelings—knowing when to step in, and when to simply comfort and encourage them to stick something out.

Watching my kids operate in their passions and purpose brings me indescribable joy. I held back tears seeing her on stage.

Because it was a Dance-STEM Camp, the girls choreographed their own dances and coded their own music for it. Natalie’s team was Team Stars, and their theme was Celebrate! A perfect way to wrap up her birthday week!

After the show we drove Nnenna to her dad’s, and it’s no short trek. Picked up In-N-Out before hitting the road, Nnenna finally found out her class schedule this coming Fall and FaceTimed her friends about it—I listened to them speak teenager—checked in with Natalie and Nas—learned that they had a prayer circle back stage before the show—tried not to laugh at Nnenna because my underlying abs hurt from a new workout I did this week, overheard Nnenna and Nas doting on Natalie, received a call from Quincy giving me a timely heads up to take another route on the freeway—it was loud, and in those moments, all I could be was grateful for the beautifully chaotic and overflowingly full life I have. And yes, this is how my brain words.

Sometimes I’m overwhelmed in the worst way. Sometimes I’m overwhelmed in the best way. It’s good to remember: The best and the worst are temporary.

Huge shout out and thank you to CSUDH for this Dance-STEM Camp they host in the Summer, and to family and friends who came to cheer Natalie on. We love you!
