POV: Your local IKEA pays your local artists. These murals were painted live at this year’s Art Therapy festival. Every muralist was paid the day they painted. The finished murals are currently on display inside IKEA Costa Mesa for a limited time before they go to their giveaway winners. Stay until the end for the community wall. Real anonymous responses to this year’s hero question: what do you think people get wrong about you? This is what an authentic retail partnership looks like. Not a sponsorship sticker. Real compensation, real visibility, real follow-through. IKEA Costa Mesa knows ball when it comes to creating safe spaces for artists. Muralists: @speczacular @_siincero_ @rebekahrrose Community mural instructor: @mrchavarriart #ikeacostamesa #localartists #payartists #muralart #artistsafespaces

Millennials know this song 😏 And these are the people behind the campaign you’ve been seeing all month. John leads creative direction at Artist Safespaces. He takes the campaign and builds the full visual identity, from the flyer and run of show to the slap-up stickers, the studio kit, and the photo booth design. Ex @tacobell. Sam is the founder and executive director. Ex @vitaminwaterofficial, ex @paciolan. She’s the visionary behind the marketing campaign and runs all socials, marketing, and press. This year’s theme is Understanding. The tagline is “We’re all on the same maze.” The festival was built for the adults who never got a space like this. The ones still figuring out how to put the anxiety somewhere that isn’t a phone. 3rd Annual Art Therapy: The Mental Health Festival Saturday May 30, 10 AM to 3 PM IKEA Costa Mesa, free, all ages #arttherapyfestival #ikeacostamesa #millennialcore #artistsafespaces #orangecountyevents

What do you think people get wrong about you? That’s the question we’re building the whole festival around this year. Artist Safespaces presents our 3rd Annual Art Therapy. May 30th 10-3pm @IKEA Costa Mesa. Free event. We’re all on the same maze. Some of us know each other better than we know ourselves. Come spend the day with artists, muralists, poets, and a community wall that fills in with what people are too afraid to say out loud anywhere else. New this year: Free professional artist headshots. Every working artist who shows up gets a headshot, a studio shot, and a profile on artistsafespaces.org. First come, first served. 1-3 PM. Shot by @theinspiredcapture Open Studio Hours. Bring your own art to our first outdoor Artist Safespace. Come hangout and make art with us all day. The community mural is back, evolved. Led by @mrchavarriart. Learn how to wheat paste if you’ve never done it. If you already know how, this is your space to answer the question and put it on the wall anonymously. Poetry hour gets a proper opening. @marcusomariprp hosts an Artist Mixer to kick things off. Come up, grab a drink, meet the artists, talk about what brought you here. Then we move into spoken word poetry and a panel chat. DJs bookend the whole thing. 11 AM to 1 PM upstairs. Three live muralists painting all day. @speczacular, @rebekahrrose, @_siincero_. Each mural given away at the end. Must be in attendance to enter to win. 100 limited edition screen prints designed by @speczacular. Buy a frame at IKEA and get a free print. IKEA team will assemble it on-site for you. No stress, we got you. Swipe through to meet the artists. Last slide for the run of show. RSVP link in bio. Tag an artist who needs this day (or needs a headshot 😏) Presented by #artistsafespaces x @ikea Costa Mesa Featured partner @artsupplywarehouse Creative Director @viettriet #arttherapy #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #livemural #livepainting

This is a silly, but actual poster design for a made-up film that is “based on a true story.” 🤓🐶😎

Throwback to this amazing event hosted by @artistsafespaces x @ikea @ikeacostamesa 💛❤️ The Annual Mental Health Festival at IKEA Costa Mesa. Graphics and Creative Direction by @viettriet The 2025 theme explored the idea of anxiety through creative expression. Visitors experienced live mural art by @crissellem, @art.ofthe.endangered, @anniehonglikes, interactive art stations with @artsupplywarehouse, interactive mural by @mrchavarriart, “Assemble Your Voice” poetry slam competition hosted by @marcusomariprp, fireside panel featuring experts from @hoaghealth, @211orangecounty, and @unitedwayoc, plus bring-your-own-vinyl DJ station, screen printing workshop, and more! It was a beautiful event seeing many people express themselves. Keep celebrating mental health awareness as we create space for peace together. Transform anxiety into art — and isolation into connection for more supportive + creative environments. ✨ #GotAnxiety #CreateSpaceForPeace #ArtTherapy #ArtistSafespaces #IKEA #MentalHealthAwareness #Anxiety2025 #anxiety #anxietytips #anniehong #artoftheendangered #crisselle #orangecounty #ocartists #laartists #losangelesart #mentalhealthawarenessmonth
