Throwback to the 19th day of kindergarten! We don’t explicitly dive into teen number composition until much later in the year, but when I realized it was the last teen number in our count for # of days in school, I thought, hey, why not lean into some intentional exposure earlier on? So, I pulled out a visual I typically save until later in the year!

Teen number foldable cards: a concept that my amazing and talented friend/math specialist shared with our grade level…and a large part of why my kiddos are so solid in their understanding of teen numbers year after year! 💛 I anchor my students’ understanding of teen numbers in their fingers, so I made my own version of the cards with visuals of fingers!

I love these foldable cards because I love how they really help the kiddos see how teen numbers are composed AND decomposed. Pair them with manipulatives and ten frames and it’s ✨ chef’s kiss! ✨

I’ve used these whole group and as an intervention tool. You can even teach the kids how to make their own set!

🔗 Comment “TEEN” to check the foldable cards out! 🔗

Tam. Mum of three. Owner of @mrslearningbee

We met through Uplevel. Not at a hair event. In a room full of people trying to build something real.

We talked about everything except business. Life. Kids. The weight of doing it all.

Then she asked if I could do her hair.

I don’t do home visits. Ask anyone. But I looked at her and I knew. I knew what her hair needed. I knew what her life needed. Baby number three doesn’t leave room for four hours in a salon chair.

So I told her, Brisbane. After the workshop days. We’ll do it properly.

A few days later, the quote went out. She said yes without blinking.

And the rest happened in a hotel room.

Thank you for trusting me with that, Tam.

If that’s what you’re looking for, you know where to find me.

What a huge day! Possibly one of the biggest professional assessment days I’ve ever had with an assessor visiting school to observe my teaching as part of my NESA Lead Accreditation process. I am so thankful to so many of my wonderful colleagues who took part in different elements of the day to support me. Feeling very thankful…and a little proud too. 😊

Thank you @wingaru_education and @smilingmind for your incredible teaching resources I was so proud to showcase today and @mrslearningbee for my very pretty teaching interactive slides.

Three days at a business retreat in Bali called Uplevel, wrapped up like this.

The last morning, we wrote each other letters. I have read mine four times now and I am still not finished with it.

Somewhere between the massage and the fire pit, I stopped counting how spoiled we were and just let it happen.

Marshmallows melting into chocolate as the sun went down over Uluwatu. Engagement stories and bad dates in the same breath, nobody rushing to the next one.

Anita is the woman behind all of it, and I did not know how much of a reset I needed until I was in the middle of one she built.

🍫 Dreaming up delicious treats for Roald Dahl Day! Inspired by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, students designed their very own Wonka Bars and let their imaginations run wild. From sprinkle donuts and rainbow chocolate to cookie-filled creations, every bar was completely unique! ✨

Day two, I sat in a room listening to Lou Rice talk about nearly running out of cash. Borrowing money to cover stock nobody bought. The specific loneliness of holding a business together while everyone assumes you have it handled.

I recognised every part of it. Not because it was inspiring. Because it was mine too.

I have reinvented this business half a dozen times now. Through COVID. Through staff leaving for their own reasons. This time was different. This time I got to rebuild it just for me.

If you are a hairdresser who has ever run the business and done the hair and smiled at a client while working out if payroll clears, this is for you. Strength is not the photo on the deck with thirteen other women. Strength is the version of me that kept showing up to a chair for clients while deciding, quietly, whether the whole thing was going to survive.

By day three, my mind had finally slowed down enough to feel any of it. Sound healing for the first time. A friend I want to know more of, not less. A final breakfast I did not want to end.

The answer did not change. It just got clearer, and for the first time, I could feel it too.

If any of this sounds like your year, I would love for you to stick around.
