Salon life = hair in every crevice, endless laundry, dishes galore, and sanitizing like our lives depend on it. 😅

Shoutout to our behind-the-scenes salon hero Monica (not pictured) for coming in every week and saving us from drowning in it all. 🙌✨

Looking back at all the things we've done to Monica's hair in the last 2.5 years and also a huge appreciation for always being down to let me try new techniques I've learned.

Needless to say, we like to have fun with her hair. 😉

Let me tell you about my friend, Monica.

Monica has a shit load of hair and tends to be more frizz prone, but her hair is strong AF. For her scalp, she tends to be on the drier side and can get irritated.

I chatted a bit in my stories yesterday about your shampoo & conditioner not needing to match because they don't.

Pick your shampoo for your scalp needs and your conditioner for your hair needs. (In my opinion.)

This is my ideal regimen for Monica:

1. Gloss.Me Shampoo from @designmehair
2. Bounce.Me Conditioner also from @designmehair
3. @designmehair Fab.Me Leave-In Treatment
4. @virtuelabs Un-Frizz Cream & Frizz Block Spray to style
5. @virtuelabs Exfoliating Scalp Treatment once a week

Need a regimen recommendation? Let's chat!

Would you do it?

HAIR ROULETTE! 🙌

Sometimes, you just don't know what you want... and that's okay. Would you be brave enough to do hair ROULETTE? I'm not going to lie. It's pretty fun!

I actually got to do 2 hair roulettes in one day, so you'll be seeing another one soon!

Color: @oligopro Calura Permanent
Styling: @amika Hydrorush Leave In, Smoothing Balm & Blockade w/ Jumbo Deep Waver

Want to know the secret of this before and after?

A good blowout. Her hair is healthy in both the before and the after. The difference is she has a lot of natural texture/wave in her hair, which can make her hair look more dry than it actually is.

The key during the blowout is making sure I'm adding hydration and shine to those ends so you can really see how amazing her hair is (girl's got good hair).

My current favorite has been Water Sign serum from Amika. Curly/wavy hair soaks it up like all you jerks escaping Minnesota winters and soaking up the sun down south. (I'm not bitter. 🥶)

It's also really important to be using a hair mask that's right for YOUR hair needs. Don't just get the one that's being hyped up in the moment. Talk to your stylists about which one would be best for YOU.

Long curtain bangs are not for everyone:

Don't get me wrong, curtain bangs work on A LOT of people (like a LOT of people.)

...but if you want to have this look and have a high forehead and a narrow face, I personally, do not recommend. A middle part with the curtain bang is going to make your high forehead look even longer.

(Think back in middle school when you learned vertical lines give a slimming, elongating effect.)

Does this mean this is the rule, because I say so? Absolutely not. Do whatever the hell you want in the end.

Just some food for thought when deciding on your next cut. ✂️

Dry, itchy scalp?

Welcome to the constantly changing weather! You are not alone in dealing with this. (A LOT of you are right now.)

Here's a few simple things that may help:

1. If you have a leave-in conditioner or oil (I love the Oi line for this since it won't make your hair greasy at all) rub a small amount of it into your scalp at night. That scalp needs moisture.

2. Get a silk pillow case. If you toss and turn at night, the material of your pillowcase could be irritating your scalp more.

3. The Let it Go Circle mask from Davines is PHENOMENAL for this problem! It is a relaxing, anti-inflammatory mask that will make your scalp chill the fuck out.

4. Avoid hot water. This can be drying out your scalp even more. Warm eater is fine, just not HOT.

5. Another option is the Calming superactive as a spot treatment. This product is also great for calming down the itchiness of mosquito bites...just saying.

6. Stop shampooing the shit out of your scalp. You are not helping, you're making it worse.

Goals for 2021

As we say goodbye to the dumpster fire of 2020, I figure I'd leave with some goals of mine for the next year (so long as it's not a 2020 repeat. 😳)

1. Get better at photography and video by taking more classes and practicing.

2. Once a month virtual education. I kind of already do this, but I want to have an actual schedule.

3. Be more strict with my work schedule. As much as I'd love to, I cannot constantly be staying late to fit more people in. I need to have some energy left for my home life. (My house is a disaster right now.)

4. Ignoring any and all texts/calls regarding appointments outside of my work hours. I need time to reset.

5. Delivering my rants in a more gentle and compassionate way...

I'm kidding on the last one. That's not going to happen.

But in all seriousness, I'm hopeful and excited for a New Year! Thank you all so much for sticking with me and my rants!

Sometimes you'll see perfect, neat foils or balayage, and other times I'll have you looking like you're trying to catch a tv signal. 🛰

Here, I did a blend of foiling and hand painted lowlights to create this looks. It CAN look crazy while it's processing, but I promise those section underneath all the craziness are neat and planned out. 😜
