Why should we prioritize friendships? Taking time to engage with friends, and classmates can offer a sense of belonging and create a network to support the challenges of student life. By staying connected, you’re not only improving your mental well-being but also building a foundation for flourishing in both your academic and personal life. This feeling is contagious and mutualistic. When we have a network of connections to support us we have more space and resources to support those around us building a community of care. Maybe you think of spending time with old friends or pursuing new connections as a nice extra—something to do once you’re caught up on studies. But many studies suggest otherwise: out of all the activities that support positive mental health and long life, staying socially connected stands out as one of the most important factors. When you choose to invest in your relationships despite a busy schedule, you’re engaging in a research-backed practice that supports your mental well-being. Reminding ourselves that we’re doing this not only for joy, but for our overall health, can help us feel more comfortable and validated in our active choice to dedicate time to friendship. #mru #mountroyal #university #student #friendship

I am grateful to have been part of the launch of Dr. Ademola Adesola’s book “Dancing with My Tongue”. I am inspired by Ademola’s genuine care for community, his generosity, and the way he continually supports and makes space for students, colleagues, and the wider university community. Congratulations on this beautiful collection. I wish you good health, great success, and many blessings. May your poetry travel far and continue to spark meaningful reflections, questions, and conversations. Looking forward to continuing the celebration at the upcoming “African and Black Writings in Canada Speaker Series”. Iré o! Song: Montes by Montuno West | @montunowest
