It’s time to bring back #folkfavorites. This summer I’ve really focused on creating original content and understanding what that looks/feels like, but honestly I miss getting to share images that inspire us from y’all. So here are 9 that we’re loving on this Friday. 1) @joshsavely 2) @brendinkelly 3) @richbacon 4) @aspoonfulofbenjamin 5) @mrvalography 6) @lisaethiele 7) @grahamwhat 8) @braedin 9) @danimalnail #liveauthentic

Multnomah Falls is on and near the traditional lands of the Multnomah, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Cowlitz bands of Chinook, Tualatin Kalapuya, Molalla and many other Tribes who made their homes along the Columbia River. Today, people from these bands have become part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs as well as the Chinook Nation and Cowlitz Nation in Washington State. •

In the early 1830s, a devastating epidemic of malaria swept the area, the original village site of the Multnomah people was abandoned during this time after a large proportion of the population died. The epidemic was called the "gray" or "intermittent" fever and thought to be brought in by the American ship Owyhee under Captain John Domines. •

As COVID-19 disproportionately impacts marginalized populations, I want to acknowledge and remember the magnitude of indigenous people who have endured and are enduring epidemics that have lasting, multi-generational impacts on population, health and culture. •

A post on the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs website named “holding on to Spiritual and Cultural Traditions” explains that despite the great loss of traditional culture that occurred as a result of settlement on the reservation, the people of the Warm Springs Reservation have succeeded in holding on to many of ancient traditions and values. Our longhouses still ring with prayer songs that have been handed down for generations. Traditional feasts are still held each year. Indian languages are still spoken, and the old legends of Coyote and the other Animal People still told. •

Research for this post was pulled from native-land.ca, warmsprings-nsn.gov, oregonenyclopedia.org, & Cowlitz.org. If any of this information is wrong or you have something to add, please let me know and I will update the post. #landacknowledgement
