FROM ADMIRING THE ART TO MEETING THE ARTIST! ✨

Sometimes, life has a beautiful way of bringing things full circle! 🧡

During our photo shoot for the launch of The Black Resource & Travelers Guide, I had the pleasure of sitting in one of the most beautiful chairs I had ever seen. I was immediately drawn to its rich caramel color, elegant design, and undeniable presence. I knew it was more than just a piece of furniture. It was a work of art!

What I didn't know at that moment was that I would one day meet the creative visionary behind this magnificent piece, much less have the opportunity to collaborate with her on a project celebrating Black excellence in art and design!

Meet The Harriet Chair, an exquisite creation by Kiti Mezani World Designs.

Handcrafted in luxurious caramel Italian leather and accented with authentic Malian Bogolanfini cloth, The Harriet Chair is part of the designer's New Legacy Luxury Collection. It is a beautiful expression of African heritage, exceptional craftsmanship, sophistication, and timeless design.

And now, here we are, bringing our creative visions together for IMPROVISATION: Celebrating Black Excellence — Changing the Game in Art & Design.

For me, this collaboration represents so much more than an event. It's about the connections we make, the talents we celebrate, the stories we share, and the incredible things that can happen when creative minds come together.

Who knew that simply sitting in a chair would one day lead to having a seat at the table with the woman who created it? 🧡

What an honor, and what a beautiful reminder that sometimes the most meaningful collaborations begin when we least expect them.

Art. History. Culture. Design. Connection. Black Excellence.

And THIS is why I love what I do! 🧡✨

⏳ 3 DAYS TO GO! 🎉

The excitement is building as we prepare to welcome preservationists from across North Carolina to High Point for the Preservation North Carolina Annual Conference!

I’m especially excited about reconnecting with familiar faces, meeting more of my peers, exchanging ideas, and sharing the incredible stories that make High Point’s African American history so significant.

I’m honored to be part of this year's conference, where I'll be leading visitors through the history of Oakwood Cemetery aboard Yalik’s Heritage Trail bus and exploring the rich legacy of historic Washington Street through a classroom presentation and walking tour.

For me, historic preservation is about more than protecting places. It's about honoring the people, preserving their stories, and ensuring that future generations understand the communities that helped shape our history.

New connections, shared passions, powerful stories, and a whole lot of HISTORY! 🧡

I can't wait to see everyone in High Point!

✨🖤 THE CULTURE WAS IN THE ROOM!!! 🖤✨

Last night's soirée was EVERYTHING!!!

Black excellence, creativity, innovation, art, textiles, furniture, history, culture, and meaningful connections—all coming together under one roof!

The energy was undeniable, the conversations were inspiring, and the opportunities were endless. From the artistry and design to the beautiful people who filled the room, it was a celebration of Black creativity, entrepreneurship, and cultural expression at its finest!

And as I took it all in, one thought kept coming to mind… THIS is what makes a cultural magazine come alive! 🤭

The people. The stories. The businesses. The history. The experiences. The CULTURE!

These are the stories we want to capture, celebrate, and share through The Black Resource & Travelers Guide.

Because our culture isn't just something we read about… it's something we LIVE, CREATE, EXPERIENCE, and PASS ON!

And last night was a beautiful reminder of just how much we have to celebrate!

Back in August, we asked our community to help choose a documentary topic for a film grant. You showed up big. The top three were the Black Panther Movement in High Point, Oakwood Cemetery through the eyes of Amy Wise, and the history of Black music in High Point.

With so much passion for the Panthers and Black music, I made the call to focus on the history of High Point's Black music." "Our work often carries heavy history and sometimes we have to step back and take a mental break. This time, I wanted something that celebrates joy, creativity, cultural pride and just have fun with a project.

We created a four-and-a-half-minute trailer and submitted the application. Today, we learned it wasn't selected for funding." "That news stings, and as we approach the end of our 90-day campaign, we may need to pause this project until we get additional donations or funding. Still, we're proud of what we made, and we don't want this story to sit unseen. We're sharing the trailer with you for now.

Our history, our music, our story. Thank you for standing with us."
