Once again its that time again.. The hardest part of this lifestyle we have choosen to live; Balancing land and sea, work, responsibilities and the freedom of cruising.

Now it’s time to pause, pack up, and fly back to Turkey — back to our work & responsibilities, and a very different rhythm for a few months… and to finally reunite with family and friends we haven’t seen since November ‘24. 🧡

This time leaving Deriska here in New Zealand feels a little like leaving a part of ourselves behind. For 5 months, New Zealand has been our home, our school, our adventure, and our comfort all at once. Someplace we have felt at ease and started to feel a part of.

It’s a strange feeling… a mix of gratitude, excitement, and just a little heartbreak..
But we know this isn’t the end — just a pause.
Deriska will be waiting. And so will the journey.⚓️.
Yine o zaman geldi… Seçtiğimiz bu yaşam tarzının belki de en zor kısmı; kara ve deniz arasında, iş, sorumluluklar ve seyir özgürlüğü arasında denge kurmak.
Şimdi, toparlanma ve Türkiye’ye dönme zamanı — yeniden iş ve sorumluluklara, birkaç ay için bambaşka bir tempoya geri dönmek… ve Kasım ‘24’ten beri görmediğimiz ailemiz ve arkadaşlarımıza kavuşmak. 🧡

Bu kez Deriska’yı Yeni Zelanda’da bırakmak, kendimizden bir parçayı geride bırakmak gibi geliyor. 5 aydır Yeni Zelanda’dayız; evimiz, okulumuz, maceralarımız, ve aynı zamanda konfor alanımız oldu. Turist olarak gelip, kendimizi ait hissettiğimiz, insanlarıyla dıst, hatta aile gibi olduğumuz bir yer haline geldi.
Garip bir his… minnet, heyecan ve biraz da burukluk bir arada… Ama biliyoruz ki bu son değil — sadece bir mola. Deriska bizi bekliyor. Ve yolculuğumuz da.

We have been a little quiet lately. Deriska has been in a busy maintenance period.
Before we left to explore the South Island by campervan, we hauled Deriska out of the water and removed almost everything on her and handed her over to the team of painters at Bay of Islands Marina.
Since we got back from our trip in early February, we couldn’t help stopping by every week to see how the work was progressing. Lots of sanding, filling, coats of paint, and a lot of hard work and patience …
And finally this week, Deriska rolled out of the paint shed looking like a queen!
The entire hull has been repainted from bow to stern, the side hatches were removed sandblasted and painted again! Deriska has regained the shine of her early days.
A 42 year-old beauty Still ready for many new voyages ahead. Now even more beautiful than before🌊⛵. Bir süredir sessizdik…Sebebi ise Deriska yoğun bir bakım dönemindeydi..
Biz karavanla Güney Adası’nı gezmeye gitmeden önce Deriska’yı karaya alıp üzerindeki neredeyse her şeyi sökerek buradaki boya ekibine teslim etmiştik.
Şubat başında geri döndüğümüzden beri her hafta heyecanla gidip çalışmaları izledik. Çokça zımpara, boya katları, ve çok özverili çalışmalar…
Ve sonunda bu hafta Deriska boya ambarından çıktı.
Tüm bordalar baştan sona boyandı, yan hatchler sökülüp kumlanıp yeniden boyandı. Deriska ilk günkü parlaklığını yeniden kazandı.
42 yıllık bir tekne…
Yeni yolculuklara bu sefer daha da güzel olarak hazır. 🌊⛵

🇳🇿✨ Today at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds
We visited one of the most important places in Aotearoa’s history and joined the cultural experience — and Mahmut was chosen as the chief of our visiting tribe! 🪶

From the ceremonial welcome to the powerful performances and stories shared by the Māori guides, the whole experience felt deeply special. The boys were wide-eyed, and impressed, and Mahmut carried his chief duties with pride.

Such a unique place filled with mana, history, and connection.

Aotearoa’nın en önemli tarihi noktalarından birini ziyaret ettik ve kültürel deneyime katıldık — ve misafir kabilemizin şefi olarak Mahmut seçildi! 🪶

Törensel karşılama, Maori rehberlerin paylaştığı hikâyeler ve etkileyici performanslar… hepsi gerçekten çok özeldi. Çocuklar hayranlıkla izledi, biz çok şey öğrendik ve Mahmut şeflik görevlerini büyük bir gururla üstlendi.

Mana’sı, tarihi ve bağlantı hissiyle çok farklı bir yer.

Standing before Tāne Mahuta, the great kauri tree — one of the world’s oldest and largest tree species. This one is thought to be 2000-2500 years old! Kauri trees grow straight and tall, live for thousands of years upto 8000 and their wood and gum have shaped New Zealand’s history.
İşte Dünyanın en eski ve en büyük ağaç türlerinden biri olan kauri ağacının en yaşlısı ‘ Tane Mahuta’. 2500 yıllık ağaç olunca ismi ile hitap ediliyor.. Kaori ağaçları düz ve dik büyüyüp, çok sertmiş. Binlerce yıl yaşayabilir ve hem kerestesi hem de reçinesiyle Yeni Zelanda tarihine yön vermiş. 8000 yıla kadar yaşayabiliyormuş! Uzun yıllar Kaori ormanlarını kereste için kesmişler ama artık hepsi koruma altında!

Minerva Reef… we are soo gratefull we got the chance to experience such a special place. Perhaps the most unique atol in the world… What a great break to a notorious passage. Great company, great underwater adventures, lobsters, raft ups and just pure beauty of nature. But now we must be on our way… to another magical land… New Zealand… here we come 🇳🇿

Minerva Resifinde durma ve burayı yaşama şansı bulduğumuz için minnetarız. Belki de Dünya’nın en özel atol’ü olabilir. Uzun ve zorlu bir seyirde çok güzel bir mola oldu. Güzel dostlar, harika maceralar, renkli su altı dünyası, istakozlar ve 💯 saf doğa… ama şimdi buradan ayrılma vakti geldi. Yolcu yolunda gerek.. Yeni Zelanda bekle bizi geliyoruz.. 🙂
