Art Basel 2026. It’s been incredibly insightful and inspiring, thank you to everyone who shared their wisdom and brilliance. ✨🙏🏻

Congrats to @eli_schein and @trevorpaglen on their curation of the first-ever #zero10 in Basel. A fair edition with a strong nod to art historical lineage and a clear commitment to digital art as an integral part of the contemporary art canon.

That commitment was also evident throughout the main halls, with some of the most impactful digital works of this year’s edition by artists such as @luyangasia , @a.a.murakami or @timursq .

Really looking forward to what’s to come, both at the Basels of this world, but also at fairs and institutions across the globe. Exciting times for the digital art community. Let’s keep creating and building!

The idea of a melting pot felt particularly fitting for this year’s edition—a vibrant mix of people, cultures, ideas, and artistic perspectives coming together from across the region and around the world. A true moment of cross-pollination, where conversations, traditions, and creative practices could meet, influence one another, and spark new connections.

A space where the regional art scene could speak to the international one, and vice versa.

For me, art has always been one of the most beautiful ways to bring people together

from visiting an incredible exhibition about Gulf futurism that explored speculative narratives and reimagined regional identities,

to discovering a new art community space, Gubgub, a vibrant hub fostering collaboration, experimentation, and dialogue among emerging creatives.

It makes you wonder, reflect, laugh, cry, and sometimes even hungry (thank you, Laila Cooks 😄).

Grateful for the conversations, the discoveries, the old friends, and the new ones.

Un honor haber participado en la 79ª edición del Festival de Cannes☀️, un año especial para mí, ya que coincide con mi año de nacimiento y también con la altitud de la montaña donde vivo.Esta ha sido mi segunda participación y, en estos 16 años, he notado cómo el festival ha crecido significativamente, con mucha más gente y una mayor variedad de actividades. Cannes es el epicentro del cine mundial: allí se encuentran directores, productores, distribuidores, programadores, periodistas y agentes de todos los países🥂.Cannes no duerme durante diez días. Hay proyecciones desde las 8 de la mañana hasta las 3 de la madrugada, con películas nuevas y restauradas, además de workshops, meetings y cocktails que funcionan como puntos de encuentro para generar nuevas alianzas en los proyectos de cada uno. Si se quiere lograr que el cine circule y se difunda, es imprescindible pasar por Cannes al menos una vez.
Ha sido un placer reencontrar y conocer colegas de Latinoamérica, así como a nuevos restauradores del patrimonio audiovisual de nuestro continente y al director de Cannes Classics. Al llegar a Cannes siempre pido permiso al mar azul, y el último día también me acerco para despedirme. Crazy week.
So many meetings, screenings, coffees, reunions, new faces, and exciting conversations about future projects.

Big thanks to the Netherlands Pavilion for making us feel at home in Cannes.

Very happy to have spent these days with old friends from the industry and new friends we’re already starting to work with.

Also… somehow we managed to squeeze in a little red carpet moment between meetings 😅

Now back to reality (and emails).

Dérive’s Performace

The very act of showing up is already the enactment of a political claim.
Dérive is the floating extension of Nauru’s presence in Venice. A convoy of small boats moving through
the lagoon in solidarity with the island’s pavilion.
Venice is not land threatened by water. It is water interrupted, temporarily, by land. The city has no fixed
relationship to what surrounds it. It rises and falls with the tides twice a day, sinks millimeters per year,
carried somewhere it did not choose to go. Every wall carries the tideline archive of floods the people
have forgotten. The most destructive water is the water you don’t see, already inside the material,
already moving. Nauru knows this diﬀerently. While Venice performs decadence, Nauru embodies
depletion. Both islands exhausted their foundations. One through beauty, the other through phosphate

Attending the preview of the 61st Venice Biennale was a magical experience for many reasons, but especially for three very personal ones.

My dear friend and incredibly talented artist Alexa Hatanaka took center stage at the Biennale. Not only did she present three beautiful installations in Minor Keys, but she was also commissioned to create the flags leading to the main building in the Giardini. Joining her walkthrough and sharing such a special moment with her was such an incredible honor!

Another highlight was experiencing Derive, a performance curated by my first New York friend, Katarina Bosch, who I quite literally met at baggage claim on my very first day in New York. Presented as an official performance for the Republic of Nauru, Katarina coordinated for a small group of guests to be driven through the lagoon by Venetian teenagers in their barchini. In her words: “The lagoon becomes a medium, the stage for a joyful nihilism, a choreography of collapse but also a living space to be explored. The outboard engine, a unit of speed, labour and perception.”

Another highlight was seeing Elisa Carollo, my art partner in crime, curate a survey of Mel Ramos set inside a stunning Italian palazzo. It was wonderful to see her do what she does best in her home country during La Biennale — definitely a highlight among our many art memories around the world together.

It felt so special to be there supporting these incredible women I’m lucky to call friends. Rock on ladies, you are stars ⭐️🌟
