Posted @withregram • @beatriceturner Yes, child labor in fashion is still very much a reality. Despite being illegal in many countries, it remains a significant issue, particularly in developing regions. Unsurprisingly, these are the very places where fast fashion brands often source their products.

I’m not sure where the first video came from or if it’s even real, but the comments I saw underneath it were appalling 😪 beyond the shitty jokes of ā€œwork fasterā€, ā€œwhere is my package b****hā€, there were some people even arguing that work can teach teenagers valuable skills and provide opportunities, like apprenticeships that prepare them for future careers. But there’s a huge difference between helping out on a neighbor’s farm and toiling away for 12 hours in a dangerous, unsanitary factory.

The first step to eradicating child labour is to admit that it exists and that we benefit from it, we are involved. Often with the clothes we wear, food we eat and tech we crave. So here’s how you can help:

🌻 Educate yourself and spread the word - Maybe you didn’t realize that many fast fashion brands still rely on child labor. Awareness is the first step to making a change!

🌻 Consider donating - Organisations like Anti-Slavery International are actively working to end child labor. Your contributions can make a difference.

🌻 Demand transparency - Avoid brands that don’t disclose who makes their clothes. If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably comes at a hidden human cost.

🌻 Support ethical brands - Choose companies that prioritize transparency and fair labor practices.

🌻 Look for certifications - Look for third-party certifications like Fair Trade International, BCorp, or Fair Wear Association to guide your purchases. Websites like Project Cece can help you filter and find fairtrade fashion brands.
