I’ve been reading through my comments again. Seriously you writer types are incredibly hilarious. Thank you for being my peoples and hanging out with me here.

Sometimes when I’m not doing anything and my mind goes a little quiet, I look on here at all the comments I’ve had over the last few months.
My posts - well they’re nonsense mostly, but the comments are where all the fun happens. That’s the bonus of having creative writer people following you - they bring the nonsense to the comments.
Some reason I can’t tag people in the pictures - I’m not good at doing fancy stuff like that… maybe I’ll learn one day. Or maybe I’ll always be this hopeless.
Anyway.
This was fun.

Yes 3 trophies.
They were virtual ones and to any normal person they might not seem like much. In fact they might be seen as rather silly and pointless. But I’m all about the little wins. And I think you should celebrate trophies no matter how you won them. I now have three on my virtual trophy shelf and I’m going to keep collecting them 🏆🏆🏆

So - I have decided to give out some of my own trophies to people I think deserve a little virtual win 🏆

First @gphawker for being just a top man, always encouraging and supporting others. And who also makes me laugh very loudly a lot of the time. You can have a 🏆

For @doritauthor for always being so kind and gentle. And reminding everyone of the important things, like clouds and weird insects. You can also have a 🏆

For @msdippel for being the best German person I’ve ever spoken to. And for giving great advice. You can have a 🏆

To @dulcibella_writes for always joining in with my silly nonsense and making me laugh. You can have a 🏆

And to @bymarkuskidd for all the chats, and for joining in even when I’m being utterly ridiculous. You can have a 🏆

If you lot would like to award 🏆’s to people too, then you can. Or not. I’m not here to tell you what to do. I’m just here to make up silly games and eat pudding.

Been a busy Monday.
There was pudding. Teaching. Gym. A bit of writing, but mainly research at the moment. And now reading a book that got delivered today.
First thing I noticed - it’s a massive book!
Second thing - after a couple of pages I’m already asking myself loads of questions… what was the dream for? Who was stealing the tomb? What exactly is the power Kaelen has?
Anyway. I will only find out by reading more. And that’s what I’m going to do for the rest of the night. And probably tomorrow. And really, until it’s finished.

4/5 stars for Dippel's debut dark fantasy novel!

I'm actually shocked that Dippel is not a native speaker, because the prose in this book is really top notch. Colourful, expressive language throughout. There was never a moment when the author seemed to be at a lost for how to describe something. It all flowed fluidly and was a pleasure to read!
It is a wild and chaotic ride, with many twists, and from multiple perspectives. The story begins with two apprentice fateweavers, Kaelen and his sister Elara. While they are fairly competent, they both have a level of naivity about the world they live in.
When a thief breaks into the Great Library, and steals a mysterious fate tome, the siblings are tasked with retreiving it.
There are some hard lessons to be learned along the way... some more brutal than others. It is a messy world of Fateweavers, the Fateless, the ambitious, the cruel, and innocent crushed in between.

It was quite impressive how the author ties all the storylines together at the end, in an epic way. And the ending was quite satisfying!

That being said, I do think trying to juggle multiple storylines did mean that a couple moments felt like a missed opportunity. One in particular stands out to me, but its fairly deep in the book, so it'd be difficult to reference without spoiling some twists that happened before. It is not plot breaking, just not quite as epic as it could've been. It's the only reason for the missing star. Otherwise it would've been an easy 5 out of 5.

In full disclosure, my mom also read it as well. And she really liked the first half, but did not like the ending at all. Her rating was a 3/5 stars, which I think is harsh, and more of a preference thing. I liked the ending, but she did not. So potential the ending is controversial...

Either way, I personally recommend giving it a read, and look forward to seeing what M.S. Dippel puts out next... I hear its almost a 180 into the lighthearted and cheery domain!

Getting my act together and catching up on some long-overdue book reviews. Today: The Art of Weaving Fate, an awesome and morally complex dark fantasy by @max_writes_books

Full review:
I originally read this fantasy epic when it was posted on Royal Road, and I devoured the entire book chapter-by-chapter as it released because it hooked me that much.

Every aspect of this book converges in a satisfying, gripping way. The characters are believable and easy to root for. The magic system is interesting. The worldbuilding is airtight. The plot is the kind of promised slow burn that rewards attention and dedication.
There’s a very prominent and well-developed philosophical undertone serving as the narrative’s backbone, and thematically the book was spot on.

The entire magic system of fateweaving is called into question and used as the framework for the author and characters to explore how the art of writing down everyone’s fates into fate tomes can be abused and misinterpreted. If everyone’s lives are already laid out for them by the Fateweaver Order, then is there free will? Is everyone destined to do exactly as the Fateweavers (and the God of Fate) dictate?

The characters were realistic and complex. Kaelen and Elara’s sibling bond is bound to strike a chord in anyone with siblings themselves, as they balanced the occasional exasperation with each other with genuine protectiveness and familial love. They also both felt very much like students forced out of their depth. There’s also a pervasive sense of optimism to them both, at least at first. They’re idealistic. They believe in their Order’s ideals and want to see the best in everyone. Of course, as things devolve, they’re given no choice but to adapt to the harsher reality of the world, and it was an engaging journey to be on alongside them.

As for the plot, I have to say that it does not go in the direction I anticipated and multiple well-executed plot twists caught me thoroughly off guard.

Cannot wait to see what this author writes next.

PLEASE READ!!

I couldn't fit all my thoughts in the video, so here are a few more:

1. This book is a bit darker than what I normally read. However, I enjoyed it more than I expected. Max did an excellent job with his villainous characters. Just know that this book is not for the people who need happy endings. You will be sad.

2. This book is NOT closed door. It just barely goes past the point of closed door. I thought the romance was tasteful, but this is NOT a book for teens. It is an adult book. The romance isn't the focus of the story but it is there. If you have specific questions please feel free to shoot me a dm. I'm here to be honest and helpful!

3. I hear Max is currently writing a book about an anxious dragon who goes to therapy. Sounds amazing and I can't wait to read it! You should go follow his account. That's all! 😁 @max_writes_books
