My first Web Summit 🙌 Real talk: I’ve been going to conferences for years and somehow never made it to this one until now. They originally invited me as press, but I really wanted to speak. So I replied, shared what I was working on, and asked if there were any opportunities. That led to a call. The original idea didn’t move forward, but I stayed open, shared how I could bring value, and a last-minute opportunity came up. I got to moderate a panel with @caseyadams and join another with @mshannahmurphy @carl.s.miller behind the podcast Kill List. Both panels explored the power of podcasting: how to launch, maintain, and monetize your show in a crowded space. The common thread? Lean into your passion. Lean into niches. Be consistent. And think outside the box when it comes to monetizing— whether through cross-platform promotion, events, or bringing your expertise to brand platforms. Or sometimes, it’s not about monetization at all. As @carl.s.miller shared, it’s about getting the story out there, investigating the truth, telling important narratives and letting the revenue come from other work. I was running on very little sleep after hosting my own event the day before and lots of travel, but I showed up and delivered. Last year we had an amazing night at @rickshawstop with so many dear friends... We’re so excited to do it again tomorrow in honor of our bestie’s @hotbrotherlovesyou new album! We feel so lucky to get to share music and space with so many incredible musicians + humans, and we’re simply tickled to have been asked to ring in the occasion with such wonderful company (including @ghostcoachband, who Grant will be playing drums with!) Releasing an album as an independent artist is no small accomplishment in this day and age, and it’s truly an honor to celebrate that with friends new and old.
