Tonight, I had the incredible chance to share an evening with none other than John Green.
His influence has woven its way across many people, including me. My journey into his writing was an unexpected one, guided by the backdrop of Anthropocene-reviewed podcasts in my art class, all thanks to my high school art teacher, another significant influence in my life. Though my exposure was modest, it ignited a passion for nonfiction and motivation to simply create. From time to time, I still listen to John Green, an uncommon influence on my art journey that I won’t day to do with others.
In recognition of this, I wholeheartedly award John Green a solid four out of five stars for the profound impact he’s had on my life. Thanks, John; I hope you enjoyed my quick sketch of you :)

Another thank you here to the performers and audience who came out last week and made our variety show so fun. We had improv, poetry, jazz, songs, Un-prov (improvised music structured by a game of Uno), free improvised music, raised over $100 for Room At The Inn, and opened @peterfelsman’s sauerkraut! 🙏🙏🙏

15 high school art students, 3 art teachers, and I painted a mural this weekend :) Started at 1 pm on Friday and finished at 3pm on Sunday. I still can’t process that and am so proud of EVERYONE who put a hand in this (pun vm intended).

The mural you see is based on the amazing design of @isabellelagrou181, focused on the ASL sign for ‘love’—Birchview Elementary School’s core principle.

This opportunity was brought to us all by Artists in Excellence. AIE is a group of advanced high school art students from Ishpeming, Negaunee, and Marquette (administered by @mqtartsandculture).

Not tooooo long ago, I was an art student at MSHS, so it has truly been an honor to help guide them through the design process and execution of this amazing work.

I am so so so excited to finally announce this. I hope you guys mark your calendars, BUT most importantly I hope you submit some art if you haven’t yet.
The purpose of this is to showcase and explore the idea of “nature”. Whether that’s literally, through nature photography or studies, or conceptually through interpretations of the “nature” of things, (the term “human nature” is a good way to interpret that idea) hence the show title “The Nature of Some(things)”. I’m leaving this intentionally very open ended and up to individual interpretation, it’s all subjective.
The link for submissions is in my bio. I’m sure a submission fee might turn some of you away from this, but that $10 gives you an unlimited amount of submissions and will go towards awards and prizes for best(s) in show as well paying the bands that will be playing at the receptions.
Huge thank you to @oredockbrewing for hosting this in July. Please reach out to me if you have ANY questions or concerns. Share this to your story, share it with your artist friends! I really look forward to seeing your art and seeing you at the receptions to support the artists, the musicians, and the brewery.
