On October 25, Ms. Letna’s Healing Hope Fundraising Brunch returns for its 10th anniversary in support of SHN!

After her own breast cancer treatment at Centenary Hospital, Ms. Letna turned her gratitude into action, creating the Healing Hope Brunch to give back to the hospital that cared for her. Since 2013, this inspiring event has raised more than $57,000 for the Cancer Care Program at SHN’s Centenary Hospital.

This Black History Month, we’re proud to recognize donor and cancer survivor Ms. Letna, whose journey at SHN’s Centenary Hospital sparked a movement of hope.

“When I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011, the care I received at Centenary quite literally saved my life,” she shares. “I was supported not just medically, but emotionally and spiritually.” That life-changing experience led her to create the Ms. Letna Healing Hope Foundation, which has raised over $54,000 to support cancer care at SHN.

For Ms. Letna, representation and culturally sensitive care are essential in the fight against cancer.

She also believes we must normalize conversations about prevention. “We need to have more honest, everyday conversations about our health in the Black community — especially about early detection, knowing our family history, and booking regular screenings before something feels wrong. Too often, the word ‘cancer’ is whispered or avoided altogether.”
