What do you do when the lashes you need cost more than the makeup job itself?

When Mikka Marcaida (@mikkamarcaida) was starting out as a makeup artist, she charged ₱500 per client—but false eyelashes could cost anywhere from ₱350 to ₱1,000 a pair. Worse, she found that many weren’t even designed for Filipino eye shapes.

“We didn’t have lashes that catered to our own eye shapes,” she tells Allure Philippines. So at 22, Marcaida flew to Indonesia to find suppliers, tweaked existing lash styles for Filipino eyes, and started Faboulash (@faboulash) with ₱20,000.

A decade later, the homegrown lash brand continues to draw from the expertise Marcaida gained in the makeup chair—even as she pursues her own artistry on a global stage from Los Angeles.

Read how a problem on a ₱500 makeup gig became a Filipino beauty brand. Grab your copy of the Global Beauty Issue of Allure Philippines, available now at shop.allure.ph.
