Hi!!!!!!!!!!! 💋

My beloved friends and I make movies! We have some exciting news and would LOVE your help! HAROLD EATS MAUDE is in competition with 49 other short films for a pool of $200k at Ripcord Halloween Film Festival. To be clear, this is essentially the hunger games of genre shorts filmmakers and a high stakes bloodbath.

You can register for free at www.ripcord.film to watch some epic shorts along with HAROLD EATS MAUDE, and if you’re utterly obsessed with what you see, you can generously throw us a vote to give us a shot of making top 10 and getting some $ for the next feature. Voting ends on this Thursday, Oct. 22nd!

The Love Witch is a 2016 American comedy horror art film written, edited, directed, produced, and scored by Anna Biller. The film stars Samantha Robinson as Elaine Parks, a modern-day witch who uses spells and magic to get men to fall in love with her with disastrous results.

Shot entirely on 35mm film, and printed from an original cut negative, The Love Witch is a tribute to 60s horror and Technicolor. In a modern world where hollywood films strive for a realistic look creating movies with no intentional lighting and bland colors, Anna Biller’s witchy classic shows we can still have visually stunning pictures.

To fully commit to the old hollywood colorful world, lighting was also a very important expect. Instead of relying on soft lights, Love Witch was made with hard key lighting creating sharp shadows and a strong contrast. Along with hand-painted sets and the vibrant color pallete, Biller and Samantha Robinson created an immediate horror masterpiece.

So in addition to Shortwave having its best year ever (sales are up 500% from last year!), exciting things are happening on the film side as well!

@themovieslay premiered at @screamfestla on Monday, and the @letterboxd ratings are incredibly weighted to 5 stars! It was a fantastic premiere at the TCL Chinese Theater in LA.

GOODY GOODY was bought by @shudder and premiered last month, you can stream it now!

HAUNTOLOGY continues to do well in royalties every fall season.

And of course, my baby, THE FORT won half of the ten awards it was nominated for, including a BEST FIRST-TIME SCREENWRITERS award for me and @itscatherineclark.

THE UNIFORM is in post-production now, and there's one more project that hasn't hit Letterboxd yet, but I'll be excited to share that when it does.

Overall, super excited for each of these projects and where they are at the moment. Okay, now back to my publishing work...

Thank you @nashfilmfest for the “Best New Director” award! Shout out to indie-film-superstar @missannapurna who won this last year and was on the jury this year🙏🏻❤️🙌🏻

Jury statement: “This film is a vibrant, expansive feat of filmmaking that shows us what can be possible with a small budget and big talent. The story pulses with emotion, tenderness, humor, and longing, letting us bask in its earnestness. The original music scores the beating heart of the film, carrying us from beginning to end, and at the center we have Rubyrose Hill, who brings humor, warmth, and vulnerability to Dotty. ‘Crystal Cross’ is a remarkable debut feature: clear-eyed, tender-hearted, and guided by a distinctly poetic voice.”

"The Love Witch is an expertly executed homage that works brilliantly on its own original terms. Suffusing its genre conventions with sly feminist commentary on the relations between the sexes, the pic offers as much for the mind as the eye, and that's saying something" @hollywoodreporter

"Biller achieves an ecstasy of artificiality in this amazing retro fantasy horror, delivered with absolute conviction. It’s drenched in the Technicolor 60s: there are touches of Italian horror, Hammer and late Hitchcock. Biller devises a feminine sensibility for exploitation to match the macho connoisseurship of Tarantino or Rodriguez." @guardian
