Makayla Smith, a Sociology undergraduate student and BRIDGES Scholar at the Social Science Research Center (SSRC) working on FishFirst! Zambia, has received an SFUEO Award. The College of Arts and Sciences Student First Undergraduate Excellence Opportunity (SFUEO) supports undergraduate students pursuing internships, co-ops, field work, external research projects, or study abroad.

The BRIDGES Undergraduate Research Program allows students to engage in impactful work that offers funding, career and graduate school preparation, and a community of support among peers and professionals.

Last week, Makayla presented a FishFirst! Zambia poster at the Spring 2023 Undergraduate Research Symposium. Read more of Makayla's story at the link in our bio. Keep up the great work, Makayla!

Thank you to everyone who attended our fourth annual Early Childhood Capitol Day yesterday, and huge thanks to our event co-hosts and press conference speakers! We are also grateful to the lawmakers who made time to engage with us while we were at the Capitol, including Representative @kentmccarty, Representative Donnie Scoggin, @repmarktullos, Representative Greg Haney, Representative Orlando W. Paden, Representative Shane Aguirre, and Representative Randy Boyd. It was great to see so many people supporting early childhood!

We'll be on the lookout for any new or updated legislation that impacts young children, their families, and early childhood professionals. We hope that the broad support we've seen for our four policy recommendations will help our state lawmakers make community-informed decisions this legislative session!
