Because of Flint... ❤️

Dominic Rector came to Flint as a Human Resources major looking to gain experience. He left with so much more.

Through his internship at New Paths, Inc., Dominic discovered that the heart of HR isn't found in policies or paperwork; it's found in people. Every conversation, every challenge, and every opportunity reinforced that great leaders invest in others first.

Flint has a way of changing people. It builds confidence, strengthens purpose, and reminds us that meaningful careers begin with meaningful relationships.

Thank you, Dominic, for bringing your passion, professionalism, and servant leadership to the Flint community. We can't wait to see where your journey takes you.

Because of Flint, the future of HR is a little brighter.💚

### 🎬 NETFLIX PRESENTS...

***Dominic at New Paths***

Some people spend their summer learning HR.

Dominic spent his helping shape it.

As a Michigan State University student majoring in Human Resources & Labor Relations with a minor in Leadership of Organizations, Dominic quickly became more than an intern at New Paths, Inc. From contributing thoughtful ideas during employee relations discussions to helping modernize the employee orientation presentation, he earned the trust of his team by showing up prepared, professional, and ready to make a difference.

His supervisors describe him as intelligent, insightful, and someone whose classroom knowledge translated directly into meaningful workplace contributions.

🎬 **Coming this fall as part of the *Flinterns* documentary series.**

Because sometimes the best stories aren’t about climbing the corporate ladder—they’re about using your skills to strengthen a mission that changes lives.

🍿 **No script. No actors. Just one unforgettable summer in Flint.**

**🎬 NETFLIX PRESENTS...**

***Alya at ROWE***

Some documentaries are about engineering.

This one is about the people behind it.

From day one, Alya Kayat stepped into the Human Resources team at ROWE Professional Services ready to learn. What she found was much more than an internship—she found mentors who believed in her, opportunities to make a real impact, and the confidence to step into the HR professional she’s becoming.

This summer, Alya didn’t just observe. She improved recruiting processes, helped welcome and onboard ROWE’s summer interns, contributed ideas that the Talent Acquisition team plans to keep using, and became a trusted member of the team.

As a Michigan State University student majoring in *Human Resources & Labor Relations and Psychology, Alya has shown that the best HR professionals don’t just build organizations—they build people.

*One summer. One story. A career just getting started.*

🚗💼 Cathy Catches Up: Flinterns in the Wild

Today’s stop: GST Michigan Works!

This week I had the pleasure of catching up with Anna Burk and her rockstar supervisor, Wendy Paxton, to see the incredible work they’re doing to strengthen Michigan’s workforce.

GST Michigan Works! connects job seekers, employers, and communities by providing workforce development services, career coaching, training opportunities, employment resources, and business solutions. Their work helps individuals build meaningful careers while supporting employers in developing a strong and talented workforce across the region.

As a dual major in Human Resources & Labor Relations and Political Science Pre-Law, Anna has found an internship that brings both of her academic passions to life. Every day she’s gaining firsthand experience in workforce development, learning how organizations support employees, employers, and communities while seeing the important role public policy and employment law play in creating opportunity. This experience compliments her current role as Vice President of Finance and Operations of ASMSU.

One of the best parts of my visit was watching Anna confidently engage with professionals, ask thoughtful questions, and embrace every opportunity to learn. It’s clear she’s taking full advantage of an internship that is preparing her for a future in human resources, employment law, or public service.

A huge thank you to Wendy and the entire GST Michigan Works! team for investing in our Flinterns and providing an experience that is challenging, meaningful, and full of opportunities for growth.

The best internships don’t just teach students about a profession—they help students discover where they can make the greatest impact. Anna is well on her way. 💚🤍

FLINT INTERNSHIP SITE SPOTLIGHT: ROWE PROFESSIONAL SERVICES 🏗️

Let's meet the team helping design the future of Michigan while investing in the future workforce! 🌟

This week we're highlighting ROWE Professional Services Company, one of our incredible Summer 2026 internship partners. This summer they are hosting Alya Kayat, a human resources and labor relations and psychology phenom!

👋 Meet Lori Mudge, Principal & CTO.

📍 Headquartered in the heart of downtown Flint, ROWE is a multidisciplinary civil engineering and surveying consulting firm with more than 130 professionals working on impactful projects throughout Genesee County and across Michigan.

💙 Why Flint? "Being a part of a movement and having an impact."Lori believes one of the biggest misconceptions about Flint is that people don't always see its true potential. Through community partnerships and transformative projects, ROWE helps showcase the very best the city has to offer.

🎓 Why host interns? To give future HR professionals real-world experience and opportunities to grow.

✨ Best quality an intern can have?
Inspiration.

📚 What internships teach that classrooms can't? "The daily grind."

💡 Workplace Superpower: Integrity
😜 Most-Used Emoji: 😜
📧 Too Many Unread Emails? Five. (That's the limit!)
🦉 Office Mascot: An owl or fox wearing a hard hat and carrying blueprints
🎵 Workplace Anthem: "Good Life" by One Republic
☕ Coffee Order: Flat White

🍽️ Favorite Flint Lunch Spot: Applewood Cafe

🏃 One Flint Experience Every Student Should Have: The legendary Crim Festival of Races!

🌅 Early Bird or Night Owl? Former night owl, now proudly an early bird.

🐶 Favorite Way to Unwind After Work?
Walking the dog.

🌟 Advice for Interns: "Your opportunities are endless."

And perhaps the best definition of an internship we've heard all summer:

💬 "A successful internship is being even better than when you started."

Thank you to Lori and the entire ROWE team for investing in the next generation of professionals and helping our Flint Summer 2026 Study Away Internship Program participants see what's possible when mentorship, opportunity, and community come together.

Faces of Flint 2026 is giving future HR professional meets “just one more movie “ energy! 🍿🎥🎬

Introducing Anna Burk!

Anna is spending the summer balancing internships, early mornings, Flint food adventures, and probably a slightly concerning amount of Letterboxd activity.

Anna is equal parts ambitious, funny, and “I can totally wake up early tomorrow” optimism. ⏰

One minute she’s talking HR strategy, the next minute she is planning Europe trips, rating movies, and defending Garden Salsa Sun Chips like it’s personal. ✈️

Professional growth? Absolutely!
Sleep schedule? Still under review. ❤️
