☀️ Grand County Search and Rescue (GCSAR) recently joined regional public safety partners at McElroy Field at the Kremmling Airport for a specialized Search and Rescue Aviation Fly-In, hosted by the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC).

Alongside SAR teams from Summit, Routt, and Jackson counties, personnel trained directly with two critical aerial firefighting and multi-mission assets:

Multimission Aircraft (MMA) N327SF

Type 1 Helicopter N3802C

The teams reviewed the specialized imaging technology, sensor suites, and operational capabilities these aircraft provide during emergency missions. Across Colorado’s wide range of terrain and challenging environments, rapid aerial intelligence and coordinated air-to-ground communication are essential tools for locating missing individuals and executing safe, effective rescue operations.

The Grand County Sheriff’s Office joins GCSAR in extending our sincere appreciation to DFPC and Grand River Aviation for hosting this event. Building these relationships across county lines strengthens our shared mission: keeping our mountain communities and visitors safe.

🍂 The Grand County Sheriff’s Office is proud to stand alongside @grandcountysearchandrescue Grand County Search and Rescue in extending our sincere appreciation to Murdoch’s Ranch & Home Supply and our incredible local community!

Throughout this past month, every customer who chose to “round up” at checkout helped make a direct, tangible impact. GCSAR’s dedicated volunteers provide 24/7/365 backcountry search and rescue services across some of Colorado’s most rugged terrain. Community partnerships like this ensure our rescue teams stay fully equipped, trained, and ready to respond whenever a call comes in—protecting both our residents and the visitors who explore Grand County.

To the team at Murdoch’s and every neighbor who rounded up their purchase: thank you for investing in backcountry safety and supporting those who answer the call.

My search and rescue buddies and I climbed Thunderbolt peak (14,003') about ten years ago, one of the greatest moments of accomplishment in my life. I didn't know a thing about climbing until these guys and others "showed me the ropes", I encourage anyone interested in SAR to check out your local SAR team or Sheriffs office to find out more.😃

✨ Recently, the dedicated volunteers at Grand County Search and Rescue (GCSAR) braved rain, drizzle and dark conditions for night embankment training. We are beyond thankful for GCSAR and all of our partner agencies who continuously show up when our community needs them most!

Last year, GCSAR volunteers gave thousands of hours to missions, rigorous training, and community education so that whenever you’re in the backcountry, you can be sure help is ready.

On September 3 at 1355 hours, AMRT responded with @lacountyfd E12, S11, @lacofireairops COPT18, and @montrosesearchandrescue for an injured hiker on the Gabrielino Trail.

AMRT deployed its Utility Task Vehicle (UTV) to access the trail and safely extract the injured hiker so E12 and S11 could perform a medical evaluation.

Another great example of multiple agencies working together to get the right resources to the patient when access is limited.

🍂 On this weekend in 1948, mountain rescue pioneers from around the globe gathered at the Wilder Kaiser mountain range at the invitation of the Austrian Alpine Club. Together, they exchanged knowledge, shared experiences, and laid the foundation for what would become ICAR—the International Commission for Alpine Rescue (officially founded in 1955).

Today, ICAR has grown to a global network of over 140 member organizations in 41 countries.

@grandcountysearchandrescue Grand County Search and Rescue (GCSAR) is proud to be a member of the Mountain Rescue Association, an ICAR organization. This impressive international network reflects a strong spirit of cooperation, networking, and a shared commitment to saving lives in the mountains.

IMPORTANT COMMUNITY REMINDER:
GCSAR will NEVER charge for their services. If you or a loved one is in trouble, never hesitate to call for help. Your safety is always the # 1 priority.

How You Can Support:
They always have your back—now you can have theirs! While they never charge for rescues, they rely on community support to keep operations running. Show your appreciation for this incredible team by texting GCSAR to 53-555.

International Mountain Rescue Day — August 28

Since 1948, this day has honored the volunteers who go up the mountain when someone else can’t get down.

Right here in Avery County, that’s us. Linville-Central Rescue Squad’s Mountain Rescue Team is 100% volunteer — neighbors who train year-round in technical rope rescue, physical fitness training, and wilderness medicine, then drop everything when Avery County 911 calls. Just two weeks ago, our team logged 40 volunteer hours on a single rescue to get an injured hiker off Grandfather Mountain and into a medical helicopter. That’s what mountain rescue looks like out here, and it never really stops.

Today, we’re asking for two things:

1️⃣ Share this post to your story. It costs nothing, and it tells your neighbors who’s got their back on the mountain.

2️⃣ If you’re able, chip in what a cup of coffee costs — just $6 or more if your capable. Add that up across everyone who shares, and it funds real things: rope rescue and backpack-sized medical equipment, the continuous training our team never stops doing, and our wish list item of 5 #garminoutdoors InReach devices for the safety of our volunteers in non-cell service areas (80% of the wilderness we operate in).

Western North Carolina’s mountains are beautiful and unforgiving. Help us support the volunteers who go up into them to assist those who are lost or injured. Donate link in our bio.

We also appreciate the past support of @pelican @land_rover_defender @cascaderescue @caltopo @petzl_professional @petzlhelmets @mistymountainthreadworks @sterlingrope & any others we may have missed acknowledging.
