Many things I like to make (by Violeta)

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

After taking a print break to reset for the New Year, BCN #177 is OUT! 💘

Our featured artist is Multimedia Artist and Designer @muchascosas__, the winner of the @bostonfigurecenter's Cover Art Competition. Don’t miss out on Violeta's complex + delicious illustrations that decorate the issue!

Our issue starts out strong with a front-page op-ed by @bostonpsl that asks Governor Maura Healey’s to reconsider her declaration that Boston is not “a sanctuary state” and decries her administration’s collaboration with ICE.

The second page begins with @djfamoushamus' review of @connisssss’ album NEW SKY, a collection of 12 songs that reflect on the artist’s growth. Nearby, you can find the second edition of “Like Carrie Bradshaw,” a new column that investigates stories of love and sex in Boston.

Another installment of @bdsboston’s column starts the third page with reflections on mourning and memorialization amidst the genocide in Palestine. Underneath, @son0fgao pens a beautiful review of Bisagras, a short film screened at @blackstarfest and @ujimaboston’s series at the ICA. Finally, @josiewags writes an op-ed explaining the threats of Trump’s recent executive orders on environmental policies.

Our happenings page features an amazing array of events ranging from circus shows to crotchet lessons! Check out our ad from new sponsor @squarerootrozzie, and info about Cat Mazza's upcoming “Network” exhibit at Northeastern.

Don’t forget to peep the comic strips on page 6, which feature local members of the @cartoonistcoop: Max Foster, PomPoison, Joe Bortner, Adam Green, and E.B. Hutchins!

Along with the artist statement from Violeta, @clairetheharrison pens a timely essay reflecting on Boston University’s Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration and the reverend’s sermons. Finally, @estelleha_ closes the issue with a "Love Letter to Jamaica Pond," just in time for Valentine’s Day. ❤️

Love,

Artist Collaboration: It’s a treat when we get to work with other creators and come up with fun designs that make use of our boards. Here @muchascosas__ went to town and made one of our Islands shaped boards her canvas with this pink hued collage 🎨! Yes to more color please! #cruiser #skate #skateboard #lekker
