📣 University of South Florida football wide receiver Mudia Reuben, @mudiareuben, is using his NIL earnings to do something much bigger than football. Inspired by stories his parents shared about growing up in Nigeria, Reuben founded the Nigeria Water Project in 2024 to help bring reliable access to clean water to communities where his family has roots. 🇳🇬💧

Reuben grew up hearing how his parents would walk long distances, sometimes barefoot, to collect water before going to school or work. Seeing the scars his father carried from that work made those stories real for him. “I looked at his legs,” Reuben said. “His scars from that work were deep.”

Since launching the project, Reuben has helped fund wells in six Nigerian villages through donations and his NIL earnings. The project uses boreholes, which drill deep underground to reach groundwater, with pumps, filtration systems and large storage tanks designed to provide communities with a more reliable source of clean water.

And Reuben isn’t just putting money behind the project, he is using what he’s learning in the classroom to think about the bigger picture. While pursuing a master’s degree in pharmaceutical nanotechnology with a concentration in biomedical engineering, he is working toward developing affordable treatments, portable diagnostic tools and filtration systems for communities with limited resources.

“I’m playing college football, I’m living good. On the other hand, I have family living on the whole other side of the spectrum. I had to do something,” Reuben said. That mindset is what makes this story stand out. He has taken an opportunity created through college athletics and turned it into something that can directly impact people far beyond the football field.

Reuben finished last season with 495 receiving yards and five touchdowns for the Bulls, but his impact is clearly extending far beyond his production on the field. As he put it, “I just want to continue to make an impact on the world.” Give this young man his flowers, this is amazing.
