Missouri is well represented. 💪

Congratulations to all NCAA Division II golfers from across Missouri that have qualified for Regionals.

Best of luck May 7-9, as you compete for a spot on the national stage.

The best of Missouri's three collegiate golf facilities lies not at the flagship campus highlighted in this space yesterday, but instead an hour or so west in Warrensburg at @ucentralmo, a public university that is nonetheless separate from the University of Missouri system. Keth Memorial Golf Course at Mules National Golf Club holds a notable advantage over the Show-Me State's other eighteen-hole college course @gustingc in one respect: it offers far more modern take on green complexes and bunkering thanks to a renovation effort completed in 2016 by @cegolfdesign. Despite a relative lack of length in comparison to other top college courses, these features pose a stiff challenge for the various @ncaa Division II programs that come in town to face @mulesgolf and @jenniesgolf. In contrast to Gustin, the opener at Mules National is arguably the most demanding hole on the course from a shotmaking perspective; not only is the first its longest par four at 434 yards, but it plays over one ridge which serves as the landing area for tee shots and then up onto another plateau to the green, ensuring that most players see a long approach from a spot that is not remotely level. A single bunker lurks on the near side of the first ridge, influencing the line of play off the tee for the longer hitters who could be hitting directly over it to try and funnel the ball down the hill, but it's more likely an easier approach from up top where the green is visible as pictured here. Seeing zero greenside bunkers might not make the approach appear particularly menacing, but unless one is taking that swing from the almost imperceptibly tiny piece of level ground at the crest, the stance is almost certainly not going to be comfortable. Combine that awkwardness with having to judge the wind through a heavily wooded corridor, and the first at Mules is a surprisingly difficult test for players of all calibers; unlike the opener at the other eighteen-hole collegiate facility here in the Show-Me State, this one requires length and accuracy, without which one can only hope to walk away with no worse than a bogey.
