After what can only be described as decades of OOH clichés; hustle culture, pizza, bodega, and yellow cab tropes... @degree and @mullenloweus actually hit the sweet spot. 🎯
Most NYC ads target what outsiders perceive New York life to be. But real NYC isn’t any of that. It’s 90-degree heat down in the subway, squeezed shoulder-to-shoulder with sweaty commuters.
So they gave out free deodorant sticks that doubled as an MTA ticket to meet people right where they are. #ooh #experiential #marketing #viral

My father served in the Air Force, so this one hit a bit different.

These images are from a spot I designed a few months back, directed by Ellen Kuras and photographed by John Barr.

The brief was to tell a story about Air Force engineers working on a Pratt & Whitney F119 engine inside a Hush House.

Which of course immediately presented a problem. Hush Houses are highly specialised facilities and not the sort of place film crews generally get invited into. Active military sites come with security and operational restrictions, and they're not keen on dozens of civilians wandering around with camera gear.

So we did what we do best and built one.

One of the images here shows the empty hall we started with.

The engine is based on an F119. Since a multimillion dollar fighter jet engine wasn't in the budget, we spent days in aircraft boneyards in the Mojave Desert sourcing parts we could use for detailing. Wiring looms, hydraulic components, motors, actuators and access panels. Anything that looked the part.

Instead of recreating the entire engine, we kept the detail where it counted, the sections the actors would interact with and the camera would get close to. The centre section was built in full practical detail using salvaged aircraft parts mixed with fabricated components. @zephroprops even built in a practical hydraulic fuel line so it would drip. The rest was built to the correct scale and shape, detailed, painted grey, then extended by VFX where it made sense.

Same with the Hush House itself. We built a huge section of the corrugated augmenter tube, the 25 foot tall perforated steel acoustic walls behind the engine, the side walls, and key sections of the surrounding structure, giving VFX real textures and surface references to extend from. A lot can be added in post these days, but physical elements matter. People need something to react to, and VFX need something to build from. Major pieces that involve interaction need to be physical.

The best compliment came from the agency's Air Force advisors. They'd spent years working in these facilities, and when they walked onto set and said it felt like a real Hush House, we knew we'd got pretty close.

Bringing the beach directly to the studio! 🏖️☀️ Sometimes the best props are the ones you build yourself. From cutting up popsicle sticks to creating the perfect foamy waves, here is a behind-the-scenes look at how I built a miniature tropical getaway for this @dove shoot. Wait until the end for the final result! 📸✨ What do you think of the setup?
